Spectre and Meltdown malware? Is it still worth getting an Intel cpu?

So I just discovered there is a Spectre and Meltdown exploit in the Intel chips and the older AMD chips i believe, and was just about ready to buy the parts for my i7 8700 and GTX 1080 build.

I'm now hesitant to purchase due to this new information, and was wondering if some people could give me more insight on this topic, and how bad the issue actually is.


Should i possibly start to opt for a Ryzen 1700x or 1800x build instead?

Or is it still okay to go for the intel chip?

Even with the issues on both sides Intel & AMD. Intel is still better than AMD for pure gaming a specially when your getting a gtx 1080. Personally i think Meltdown & Spectre are being blow out of proportion for the general consumer.

i was getting ready to start a new build and like you, wondered whether to go ahead or not. I decided to wait to see what performance hits the current gen CPUs take once the patches are implemented, and possibly even wait it out till the next gen
