Speed range 10/100 lan card

Hello,
I have 3 COM 10/100 PCI - NIC 3C905C-TX ethernet card wired to Virgin Super Hub. When I check the speed it will only give max of 7.71mb. I also have laptop connected wireless and that gives me the speed of 18 to 19MB. Please can you explain what can be wrong. I was always under impression that wired always faster then wireless.

Nothing wrong. You are just comparing your slow wired connection to an N wireless that is faster. If you want faster wired speed, you need a gigabit NIC.

edit: and no, wired is not always faster. I have an old box of thinnet coaxial cable and BNC connectors to remind me of that.
