SSD questions Vertex 2

Hi All,

I got a chance to pick up a second hand OCZ Vertex2 60gb SSD. it is a 34nm model. However there is another cheaper offer for Vertex Plus 60gb. How are these both drives compare to each other. It seems Plus is newer than Vertex2 while Vertex2 seems faster on paper.

my question:

1. is it worth it to get plus over vertex 2. Both drives are in good condition and tested error free.

2. How fast cold boot are we talking about here? my current boot time is around 50secs - 1 min.

3. I play various games genre from strategy to FPS (Civ5, Crysis, FC2, JC2, DeuxEX HR, Dirt3, etc.). Will i have improvement on game loading time generally?

4. I have backed up my current OS environment (whole partition) using Acronis True Image. Can i just restore it to the new drive once i have in hand?


My current system spec is:

e5200 @3.75 1.425V
GA EP45-UD3L
4GB DDR2 800
Zotac GTX460 @815 core
320GB HDD
Windows 7
520W PSU

I am planning to use it as system drive while other HDD for data (i dont have much data on this machine). How much will it improve overal system? will it be bottleneck by my CPU?

Get Vertex 2, its much faster. No question about that!

Thank you. Now i got new situation. the vertex 2 is no longer available but instead they offer me Solid3 for 15bucks more than the vertex2.

Since my mobo does not support sata3, will it be worth it over vertex plus? and how much better/worse does it compare to Vertex 2 34nm?

One day later u will get SATA3 mobo so, u will have faster and newer technology already available on your hands.

I guess he might not know the difference on SATA2 and SATA3.

I might upgrade in a year or so i will pick up solid3

On the paper it seems being sata3, solid3 is slower than vertex2 ? how do they both compare in real life?

You will not be able to tell in real live, since your eye cant measure the difference. Nothing that u notice, on SATA2.
