SSD Rapidly losing space even though I'm not installing anything

I have a a Samsung SSD with 125 GB of free space on it. I have Adobe CC installed on it (After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, Photoshop). I also have a few games (Dota 2, Borderlands 2 and Chivalry Medieval Warfare). I had a few others installed, but when I noticed the drop in space I uninstalled them. But now that I uninstalled (Steam --> Delete Local Content) I have dramatically LESS space. I remember just a few months ago have 40+ GB free with all the same stuff installed and some more games to spare. I ran a Disk Scan, it was fine. I haven't ever defragged the SSD because that's just plain stupid. Thanks in advance.

No one defrags an SSD. Doing so is the equivalent of throwing it in the electronics recycle bin. You're right, that is just plain stupid.

However, you do have to trim an SSD. The easiest way is to use Windows' built in disk optimization tool. In fact, I'd say it's best to trim an SSD at least once a week, if not once a day if you're working it hard.

1. What size is the SSD?
2. Do you have Restore Points enabled? What percentage of the drive is dedicated to this?
3. Install and run WinDirStat. Show us a screencap of teh output.

Hitting optimize won't defrag it, right?

EDIT: Optimization didn't change anything.

"TRIM" should just be enabled. Let the drive and OS do its thing.
It is not something you need to 'run' periodically.

Recent Windows OS's know enough about SSD's to ignore things when you click "optimize".

My windows task scheduler thing is all wonky and broken, so scheduled events rarely ever start as intended. My SSD didn't trim for the first two months I had it, even though it was scheduled to "optimize once a week" at noon every Wednesday. I gave up and decided to run it manually to avoid the headache. I know, I'm weird.

Carry on...

SSD is 150 GB.

Yes and no idea how to check that.

Was set to 100%, but current usage was only 3 GB.

I was off, currently in the Control Panel it says 5.58 GB free of 111 GB. SSD is actually 125 GB.

OK, so a standard Samsung 120GB (actually 111GB)
According to your WinDirStat...~103GB used.
+3GB in Restore Points that WinDirStat does not report.
Leaving ~5-6GB or so.

So what seems to be the issue, other than that you have too much stuff installed on that drive?

When I uninstall a program, I have less space on the SSD than I did before. This morning I uninstalled Bioshock Infinite and downloaded it to my other hard drive. When I came back home the free space had dropped form 11 GB to 4ish. I've checked steam to make sure I didn't install it to the SSD again.

Page file is set to automatically manage, currently allocated 2754 MB.

I could clear temp files, but do they affect browsing preferences / cookies, etc?

My comp never hibernates on its own and I have it set that way. I always send it to sleep when I leave, unless a process I need is running.
