ok, this one is weird as .
17 14700k Raptorlake
32Gb DDR5 cl30
2 x 2Gb M.2 ( 1 for steam and 1 for EA games)
1 GB M.2 as operating system and core security apps,
Platinum 1000W PS
Zotac 4070 ti 16Gb
Gigabyte Z790 Eagle
Win 11 pro

Started to overheat, CPU only.
MB installed Nov last year and BIOS updated to then current.
CPU on start up started to go straight to 60c (140F) then over 3 to 4 seconds, straight to 90, then 97C(206F). Always shutoff as it approached 97c.
Pulled the CPU and had it checked, Supplier ran it on their test bench for 30 minutes and all within parameters.
Re installed CPU and installed new water block self contained cooling.
Computer would not post. Came with Gigabyte ( AMI Bios) 5 beeps. mm CPU RAM or GPU.
Now for the weird stuff.
Dropped out 1 stick of ram and still no post. Then tried each combo of ram and different slots. Same result.
Changed MB to a B750M. Still the same.
Tried removing the 4070 and she posted to bios.
Replaced the 4070 and did not connect the power cable to the 4070 and she posted.
Thoughts starting to go down the Power Supply line as not much else was making any sense.
Got a new Platinum PS and low and behold, it would not even power up.
Put the original 1000w PS back in and back to no posting unless GPU is not powered up by cable.
Will be getting another PS tomorrow as everything is shut now.

Any thoughts apart from a sledgehammer?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

How are you cooling the processor? You forgot to mention the make and model of your case.

32Gb DDR5 cl30
Got a link to the ram kit you're working with?

Platinum 1000W PS
1000W is the advertised wattage of the unit, what is the make, model and age of the unit?

Would be a good idea to mention both unit's makes and models.

MB installed Nov last year and BIOS updated to then current.
For the sake of relevance, please mention the BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

If you're working with an AIO, it's possible you're AIO has developed cavitation in the pump block, hence the heat isn't being dissipated.

Re installed CPU and installed new water block self contained cooling.
So you're working with an AIO.

Inspect the CPU's socket for any bent or broken pins.

Will be getting another PS tomorrow as everything is shut now.
Might want to source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built 850W unit from a friend or neighbor and see if the issue is averted.

For clarification, by posting you mean you can get to BIOS only but Win is not loading? Or it gets to Win but the CPU is still running hot?
So far the system has not posted to Windows since the overheating started. Posting has only been to BIOS. CPU no longer overheating with new water cooler.

Corsair Vengeance 2x16Gb https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/p/mem...htiux1M-6va6QeD6rPCERejnyBLOY0tFCOeakpu31YjI7
Hydro PTM PRO 1000w PS https://www.ple.com.au/products/660774/fsp-hydro-ptm-pro-1000w-platinum-pcie-50-atx-30-modular-psu
The PC was upgraded in Nov 2024. i3 to i7, MB changed from ASUS B660M to Giga Z790 Eagle AX. Corsair ddr5 32Gb kit as MB was changed from DDR4 from 5. new 100w PS installed. 2 new 2TB M.2 's installed and 1TB M.2 reused as OS boot. Bios upgraded to F3 to compensate for the potential voltage request issues that have plagued the 14th gen chips.
New MB socket is perfect. (Z760M)

Its 7am for me here in Oz, and i have split my AMD gaming beast and removed the PS (Gigabyte UD850GM) and powered up my sons PC with no difference. GPU fully powered up and error code is 5 beeps. Disconnect the power cable to GPU and it posts to BIOS, Remove GPU and it posts to BIOS. Use my Zotac 4060 with my PS and brand new power cables, and no difference. Thinking of putting an i3 in my sons rig and see if its the i7.

There have been recent bios updates to address 14th gen issues.

Check that your bios level is now current.
In particular, default settings have been fixed.
Look at what each level fixes.

Since you can get into the bios, look for settings that might have inadvertently overclocked your cpu. Load optimized settings, for example.
Look to load settings which limit power to Intel standards.

Your symptoms suggest a malfunctioning cooler.

What is the make/model of your aio cooler?
Is it new?
What is the make/model of your case?
Does it have good airflow to send cooling air to the radiator.
air to the radiator?

A simple twin tower air cooler like the thermalright peerless assassin should do the job even for a 14700K

Heat issues will not be psu related;
But the 3 year warranty is not indicative of great quality.
10 or 12 years is good.

Thanks, I completely forgot about my gaming rig as a temp donor.

The first thing i did when it started was loading optimised defaults. Have not done so on this new MB yet. Wil do so in an hour or so when back home.
Case, MB, AIO cooler are all brand new.
Just read the new Intel update. The only constant is the I7 and the DDR5. Both of which i don't have spares of but still going to try the i3's i have spare.

I had that problem with telemetry comptelruner.exe highed cpu all times, than i download process lasso and process selected terminate always,to disalowed proces,, now duo processor can good work with 4gb ram laptop pc
