Static & abnormal sound from Sony MDR-XB550AP headphones.

Hello. I purchased the Sony MDR-XB550AP from Wal-Mart earlier & I'm having an issue with the sound when plugged into the front headphone jack of my computer. There's static & the sound is muffled, but when I hold down the button where the microphone is located, the sound becomes normal like it should sound. Is this a well known issue with these specific model of headphones? I never had this problem when I used my Sony MDR-ZX110 headphones.The headphones do work perfectly when plugged into the rear headphone jack though, so maybe the front headphone jack just doesn't support 4-pole type headphones. That's my guess anyways. I contacted Sony, but didn't get a reply back yet. So if anyone could offer some solutions, that would be awesome. Thank you. (specs are listed down below in case you want them).

Sounds like the mic button is messed up. Get an exchange.

I should've mentioned this in the initial post (I'll edit in a sec), but the headphones work perfectly when plugged into the rear headphone jack of my motherboard. So maybe the front headphone jack doesn't support 4-pole headphones? I might have to get one of those adapters that have the microphone & audio ends that plug into the microphone & headphone jack, then has the female end that the headphones plug into. I think what isn't helping is that you're using headphone/mic combo that's designed for mobile phones if you read the specs on Sony's product page. It's that mic button & 4-pole jackplug that's a dead giveaway --- it's designed for mobile phones for sure.

Headset designed for a PC will have either separate jackplugs or a 3-pole combo jackplug.

It works on the rear headphone jack that's coming from my motherboard, but not on the front panel jack.
