My level 43 automaton engineer has Two shotguns.
a 16 Gauge Shotgun of the Safari (x4) (+25,+21) <+1>
with which I have 7 shots each doing 570 average damage with unenchanted shotgun
slugs.
It has an 8 square base rage which comes to 13 with keen eyes at 20.
It has a 15 degree shot cone when firing buckshot.
It gives +1 speed and would give me resist fear, neither of which makes much
difference.
a Sawed-Off Shotgun of Extra Shots (x3) (+16,+11) <+3>
with which I have 9 shots each doing 312 average damage with unenchanted shotgun
slugs.
It has a 6 square base range which comes to 11 with keen eyes at 20.
It has a 45 degree shot cone when firing buckshot.
The 10 Gauge Shotgun of the Marquis de la Tour (x4) (+20,+20) <+5, +2>
with which I have 8 shote each doing 678 average damage with unenchanted shotgun
slugs.
It has a 4 square base range which comes to 9 with keen eyes at 20.
It has a 35 degree shot cone when firing buckshot.
It gives several resistances of which only Elec 15%, Ice 15% and Acid 15% make
much difference to me.
It boosts agility, stealth, and searching by 5.
My sole problem with the 10 Gauge is that it's range is frankly abbysmal. The
16 Gauge has the best range, but the shot cone is too narrow to clear monster
pits efficiently. The Sawed Off has tolerable range and the best shot cone,
but does the least damage. I use firearms both for taking down tough foes and
for dealing with groups of monsters. Which weapon should I be using?
