oh yea no I agree any windows user could easy get on with Linux now .. I would strongly recommend Linux Mint Mate for a windows to Linux first time user. its very good for everyday use, odd little glitch but nothing bad to report. for free it great but I did reach my limit on know how when it came to getting my hdmi audio working and a tv card, so limited know how will come into it now and then, same for windows users though, I now think back was fairly pointed out, I did say back a few posts ago I eat my words for basic user, it was a simple as install and that was it, wireless set its self up (just had to type network password),gfx card ect, so internet use right away, played video's,audio, office stuff and much more all out the box ... apart from no hdmi sound (have sound card to and I have to admit it was easy to setup and get working) and no tv card working, its very easy to use. but please don't hate me for this, I'd still rather use a windows based pc as that is what I know best, same for most people I would of thought, but I could be wrong.

Now I would say,

for the basic pc user I would say Linux mint mate or windows 8 should be based on a personal choice these days, that being what user interface would you like, you will get more for free with the Linux mint if you compare it to windows 8 ... so for the basic user really it should be a no brainer save some money and mint it mate.

sozz about multi edit, lack of sleep testing lol :/

[citation][nom]stevevnicks[/nom]quote :It will only let you play games that have been ported to Linux. You obviously can't play CoD if the developer hasn't ported it.yea I understand that , so what with the performance how come it very low because its a port I know so these ported games are pointless then if they gonna play like pigs so much for steam on Linux funny how people don't quote the important issues I have pointed out and one of the major ones is if game plays like a pig then what is the point of moving over from windows to Linux for your gmming fix? let alone all the other problems the windows gamer will face finding drivers for there gaming devices after moving over to game on steam Linux . or is this not an issue and its just me ?[/citation]

well been playing at bit more to brush up on my know how with steam and linux, and im proud to have prove myself WRONG pmsl ok , after a little looking reading around updating gfx driver has made a huge difference apart from css wont run now :/ lol but im re-installing css and hopefuly the performance problem is gone :) so i may have jumped the gun a little to quick 😉 to moan and state performance is piss poor lol .. they are lots of little bugs still but they maybe driver probs sorted out later ... change of hart most defently lol so now you can all rip the sh$t into me and i will have to take it :) ... seems steam and linux are looking pritty after all ... who is this twat stevevnicks anyway ? lol :)

why did i keep trying? well to be fair after all my comments i did kind of thing hang on graphic drivers which is why i looked into update'n them, and i did start thinking hang on you norbert ! no one would put this out playing like this lol even more so steam .. should of known better lol still at least i admit it when im wrong lol

i've also proved myself a twat by stating windows pc is far easier to use than an linux PC (oh the shame :/ ) so if thats the case then Mr stevevnicks how come your an windows user for 13 years but you just installed, config, setup a linux gaming rig with no real issue other than my own blinded view of linux ? ............ guess master_chen was right im talking to myself right now lol

cringe'n while hiding under a rock in no where land right now.

did i mention team fortress 2 works on steam linux too ? lol :/

Will Linux Mint Mate stay on my 500gb HDD ? most definitely ... am i a twat for posting totaly wrong info ? most definitely , Why ? because i cant delete them PMSL

lmfao :) well after much messing around i finaly got steam and linux to run like a dream. bit of GOOD advice now, only problem i had from default install of linux Mint Mate was, you have to update the amd gfx drivers in order for HL2 engine to run like it should when i didnt upgrade the HL2 engine runs like a pig, im using the latest amd beta drivers, which also fix a problem with steam and big screen mode, looking forwad to more games on steam linux now, hope'n left4dead2 in the post :) ..
