After the windows 10 update version 1709, which is the fall creators update, steam crashes my computer. i'll start it up and within 5 minutes it causes my computer to freeze, cursor wont move and clock is frozen, everything. I have tried updating drivers for everything from my motherboard to peripherals. I can't seem to figure out why its freezing.

thank you for any help/information.

Solution
I was having the exact same problem, also with a z87 board. Steam would crash 1 min after opening, sometimes triggering a BSOD and other times just completely freeze the pc.

Had a read around and found this thread on the steam forums:

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1618346571419672437/

the fix there worked for me, I disabled AI suite 3 in task manager and steam hasn't crashed for the last couple hours.

No clue why it worked but worth a try

its saying English (united states)

This particular error i being caused is literally the steam webhelper bombing out, but I can't see any reasonable fix.

There are generic resources for troubleshooting some types of crashes and it might be time to pursue those

Ok so i have tried every single one of those fixes expect deleting clientregistry.blob which doesn't even appear in my steam files.

Something else i may have forgot to mention is that when i was downloading drivers I wasnt able to download the latest bios driver for my mother board because it was telling me that this is only for gen4 intel processors, not sure if mine is though. its an i7 4770k

Hm, I have the exact same problem, the exact same error logs and also I have exactly an i74770k.

I just update graphics drivers and gonna try installing Steam in another Drive.

Please lets keep us updated.

EDIT: What's the exact model of your motherboard?

i have an asus z87 pro mobo

If i were to do a windows 10 "fresh start" or pc reset i assume i will have to dig out all my old disks that came with my mobo/graphics card and stuff for drivers and basically re download all drivers and stuff

Just download from the Asus webpage.

Anyway this is ridiculous. This kind of deadlock is a serious fuck up from Valve; must have been an update or something.

Having the same CPU and the nature of the error, I'm afraid the issue may follow us to a fresh Windows installation.

FYI, tried disabling the Onboard Audio Driver, installing on another driver and GPU drivers update. Nothing.

This happened to me just today. Had a minor power failure but PC was already powered down. The only thing I changed today was disabling some Windows Defender stuff but only for BF1 executable.

Just opened a ticket with Steam support. This is annoying.

Hey, having same issue. I have an I7 4770k too but a maximus vi formula motherboard and a gtx 960. When checking logs i also got "Crash reporting enabled for process: browser". I've tried many different solutions and none work. I think it has to do with the new steam update and windows updates. Disabling defender / adding exception does not fix the issue. Just tried that as well

i cant speak for others but i tried that and it didnt work for me

This is happening to me as well exactly like you. I have a i7 4770K and an ASUS Z87 as well. Nothing I've tried works either. Just checking in to say this isn't just an issue for you.
