After the windows 10 update version 1709, which is the fall creators update, steam crashes my computer. i'll start it up and within 5 minutes it causes my computer to freeze, cursor wont move and clock is frozen, everything. I have tried updating drivers for everything from my motherboard to peripherals. I can't seem to figure out why its freezing.

thank you for any help/information.

I was having the exact same problem, also with a z87 board. Steam would crash 1 min after opening, sometimes triggering a BSOD and other times just completely freeze the pc.

Had a read around and found this thread on the steam forums:

the fix there worked for me, I disabled AI suite 3 in task manager and steam hasn't crashed for the last couple hours.

No clue why it worked but worth a try

Good find! Before leaving for work I just uninstalled AI Suite 3 and Steam worked past the first 5 minutes. Left the computer on, will update when I get home.

Thanks a lot!

I think my pcs problem was AI suite. if i exit AI suite it works fine.
try that
since you have asus motherboard i think that might be the problem.
UPDATE: Idid not see the 2nd page of the thread XD

I too am having the exact same issue with the exact same Mobo as everyone here, except with a 4790k. Problem is I need ai suite to be able to control fans inside the computer, and I have a lot of them. Has anyone found a workaround for this yet? Otherwise I'm going to have to go back to 1703

I had the same issue today and removing the AI Suite fixed it. What made this worst was having Steam start on startup which unless you quit it right away, would cause the computer to freeze every time.

Just found to be exactly on the same situation today with exactly the same mobo, cpu and software mentioned before.

Yesterday had no problem the whole day but when I did shutdown the pc I had a message that "G" process was preventing shutdown which was automatically forced or something seconds after.

Everything fine after running ccleaner and malwarebytes. Will now try to work around your hints.

Edit: no need to uninstall asus ai suite only shut it down but in the meantime steam got updated and it's fully working again which I'm not it already was when I stopped/closed ai suite.

I found the root of my problem. So The actual file that is causing steam to hang is the steamservice.exe. When i terminate the service steam will run fine for single player games. But if I try to run any VAC secured game it'll say "VAC was unable to verify your game session." PUBG runs fine however. This was after a fresh OS install as well. Maybe it has something to do with the steam cloud.
