Steam games progress don't save, graphics settings don't save

I played portal 2 and call of duty black ops but my singleplayer progress doesn't save, also when i set the graphics settings they too don't save. Also the class name in Black ops don't save, so if i change it, the next time i boot up the game the name stays the same as it was before. Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried backing up your game saves, uninstall steam, and reinstall steam? Actually, before you do that, right click on the game and go into it's properties. Find the tab the has the button for "verify integrity of game cache".

When you close the game does it end properly? If it crashes or ends unexpectedly your settings most likely won't be saved.

Uninstalling steam might not do the trick, you may have to reinstall the games entirely.
