[Steam][RISC OS] Staircase weirdness

Martin's been complaining for some time and I checked today,
he's quite right, on his RiscPC the staircases in Steamband
are reversed. They *go* the right direction but the symbols
are switched over, for example the town has a down staircase
in it but if you stand on it and try to go down you get a
message "there is no down staircase here" and if you try to
go up it works.

What I don't understand is that it works perfectly well for
me and he installed the application out of the exact same
archive that I did and deleted the old one first. I haven't
got a Choices: structure and he has - something left over from
an old version hanging around in there? RISC OS 3.7.

I have just downloaded 0.40 and find an up staircase in the town.
Pressing < allows you to go up. (RISC OS 3.70).

Have you check that there is nothing in Choices:AngbandEtc.Steamband
or Scrap:AngbandEtc.Steamband. Also if 0.40 was copied over an old version,
an old preference file may be causing trouble.

Martin.

Got it. The trouble is the font-acn/prf file, I assume the one
supplied in the download archive (but not inside the app). You have to
have it to get the Zap-fonts to work I think, but I always use
fullscreen mode for Steamband so I didn't copy it in.

The same for NPP, he had a font-acn/prf file which defined the
general stores as (IIRC) a down staircase instead of a '1'. Again
I wasn't using the external file so didn't see the weirdness.

(copied to Antony Sidwell who compiles the RISC OS archives)

My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

Thanks for that, I'm afraid I've been finding this group (and
rgr.development) a bit of a pain to skim through for the last month or
so, and I probably would have missed this.

I'll straighten out the prf files and fiddle with my builder so that I
can keep different versions for different variants. Like you, I always
use the non-graphical version which is always up to date, so I hadn't
noticed the problem.

Thanks again.
