Strange disk partitions in Sony Note Book

My son has a Sony PCG-GRT360ZG Note Book with WXP pro.
The disk is partitioned into three. A 5G primary
partition (no drive letter) with only 377MB free (says
EISA CONFIG).

A primary partition (drive C) with 15G, and 4.8G free
(this is the system drive partition).

A logical partition (drive D) with 54.5G and 54.2 free.

What is the purpose of the 5G primary partition, and why
is the logical (D)partition so large, and the system
partition (C) so small?

Can the partition sizes be changed without losing files
on the drives to be changed.

The 5gb may be a factory restore partition common with some
manufacturers.
Check the manual and/or contact the manufacturer for details.

The C & D partitions may be what the manufacturer feels the owners
want.

They can not be modified with windows native tools and preserve data.
To preserve data a 3rd party tool is required:

A 15gb sys partition is more than enough, just dont fall into the trap of
using default install for any apps, as this will be to C:
You might also want to keep all data on D: as presumably in the case of a
recovery only C will be affected.

Does this mean no apps should be here, or is it a matter
of disc space for the sys partition?
