HI,
I hope some one can Identify this for me.
a NEW Dell 8400 with Win XP pro. Gigabit adapter, ATI 850XT PE, dual SATA
hdd,
dell Modem etc. Office 2003 installed by me. It is NOT on my old machine
(8250).
In the Services list there is "Rasa32iorkpf" - it is stopped and disabled
and the properties give NO clues. No dependencies etc.
It is not findable in Google.....
SOME "Rasa" prefixed files seem to be modem related - ? this?
Any thoughts appreciated
ANYONE ELSE with a 8400 and XP pro notice this service in the list at
services.msc ?( its not running in task manager) ?
Tim

Nor in mine but I believe it's the Remote Access API (RAS), used by Windows
applications to control modem connections

Thanks Brian -
Do you have a dell installed modem?
Are you using a RAID system?

I've removed the modem (needed a slot for a wireless network card) and I'm
not using RAID. Dual SATA.

Although I physically removed the modem I didn't uninstall the software.

After seeing all the replies, curiosity got the best of me, and I
did a search on C:\ for any "ras*" files.

Yep, lotta API dlls, etc, and all modem connected from a little
informed speculation from some of the titles [and the contents of
an RAS folder under System32] in C:\Windows\System32 [and in the
\i386 folder, and in several Windows upgrade "Uninstall" folders,
so it seems to be legit.]

Can't check to see if I get the exact services entry you noted,
since I forgot to renew my back-up dial-up account last month;
and don't have the telephone attached to the modem anyway. So I
can't call anyone up.

Thanks for all the replies ppl
I am also looking into it at GRC forums.
Looks like this may be a left over after I uninstalled Norton internet
security suit that came pre-installed. Aberrant registry entry for some
reason.
Will post back AFTER I get some more information

Well - thanks to all who replied.
Out of curiosity ( and because I hate having things stuck on the system that
I am unsure of), I decided to do a complete reinstall (actually a dell
system restore ) and then reinstall all my software whilst
reviewing the services.
In a nut shell - all went well and Rasa32iorkpf never came back.
Conclusion:
1) its not a service that dell had installed.
2) it has nothing to do with the modem
2) its not a service that adding or removing any of the standard programs
affected..
3) its probably not a service at all, but a corrupt reg problem following an
incomplete removal/installation of "something".

So - gone for now. I will get back if it reappears!

BTW - Dell/Symantec pc restore ONLY works if you return the boot drive to
the partition status it was in upon delivery - i.e. you have to merge all
the windows partitions.

Thanks again
Tim
