Hi,

Well i got a pc from pc specialist about a year ago. I added an ssd (intel 520 - 120gb) and installed windows 7 onto it, i use my old wd 1.5 tb drive for music, files, etc.
The pc is working fine except some component seems to be running strangely and making a noise (its hard to explain noise) kind of like somethings working fast.

This noise wasn't there before i installed ssd. At first i thought it was a fan going slowing down then speeding up really quick but having disconnecting them all its still there, i took the cpu cooler off got the dust out no luck, checked the ssd & hdd weren't vibrating. Also checked psu but the sound doesnt seem to be coming from there.

Now i have a feeling it could be a graphics card, i have amd radeon hd 6950 x2 (crossfired) but crossfire is off whilst im not gaming. I have checked to make sure they are connected and there fans are running smoothly so im not sure but thats where noise seems to come from.

Anyone got any ideas, i have updated most drivers including graphics card. The sound isn't really loud but its annoying because i can hear it and to me it seems loud now lol.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on the issue, could it be a certain driver needs updating or something?

intel i7 2600k
16gb ram
amd radeon 6950 crossfired
corsair 850 psu

Thanks

Is it some sort of like squeal sound, only when you load a game? I always get that sound on my 5850 loading GTA4 and a few other titles, But I read somewhere that that was normal, even my old 9800GT did that with GTA4.

no not a sqeeling noise, its more like something is working harder, i have half fixed it by putting a sock under back end of pc so it doesn't sound as bad.

Could just be the sound is use to make but im sure it didn't, I am sure it is something with the graphics cards working harder or soemthing but not sure (i have lastest software update)

Is it a hum? A vibration? A squeal? Could be a loose component or screw or it could be coil whine or fan vibration...hard to tell from your description (probably not coil whine if a sock helped).

its kind of a hum but its not always there, components are all securly in and i disconnected all fans and they are all securley in place to and the noise was still there.

im sure its the gpu but ive taken it them out and put them back in
