I have a hard disk which is Maxtor, 80GB sata2 3.5" desktop hard disk which has been along for at least 5 years (maybe longer cuz this was my brother's). was a hard disk preinstalled from my 'previously' previous desktop (2 desktop change now) and still holding good now

here's the video

recently (well, actually is been more than 6 months now), my hard disk is making some kind of weird noise. not clicking sound or melody or grinding sound, more like err... some kind of sound only when it is loading (most of time, reading) during browsing, opening programs, etc.

to avoid loading due to paging, i manually set location of paging files to my other hard drives (2GB to Seagate and 2GB to WD laptop drive).

Are you 100% sure that sound comes from the HDD? sounds more like a loose cable being hit with a fan so please let us know if you have completely isolated that sound to the HDD.

If you are 100% sure of it, then the first step is to backup all your critical data from that HDD to not risk losing any of it, you can test your HDD with Seagate Tools, and check its status with any SMART reading program like AIDA64 or Hard Drive Inspector.

im 100% sure that this sound came from my Maxtor hard disk. (other noise is because the recording is near to other hard disk and also cpu fan sound). pretty sure no wire is hitting fans. (maybe also because of my phone sound recording is low quality)
this 'some kind of cracking' sound (i dont know how to describe it) is only be heard when the hard disk is loading.

havent test with Seagate Tools though but i just downloaded Crystal Disk Info (before read your post actually) and checked that the hard disk condition is good (according to this program) but is running at 50C.
additional info: power on is at 28476 hours and power on count is at 7688 times

SeaTools has Windows ver and DOS ver. which one should i use? (is DOS ver needs me to make it into bootable USB or CD then reboot to it?)
