Hello guys / gals,

Here is my short form problem and a description of what I have, After booting my system for approx 5 mins after powering down the sytem will not power up for at least 10 mins again. It's dead no power. But if I change the power supply for one with half the power it powers every time. I know you say change the power supply but I have with another new one and same problem. Here is a list of what I have and this is a great system I think.

Asus Striker 2 Extreme
Corsair DDR3 1333mhz 2 x 2gb kits.
Palit 9800 GX2 PCI-E video card
Western Digital 150gb Raptor Hdd
Intel QX 9770 CPU
CoolerMaster Water Cool System
Thermaltake Armour Case to fit the power supply
Thermaltake 1200 Watt Cable Management power supply

So when I change this power supply with a Coolermaster 650 watt I can power the system on and off no problems but cannot use the vieo card obviously. I have purchased a new Thermaltake 1200 Watt power supply but same problem. Now the only thing I have noticed no matter what power supply used the ram gets hot to the point you cannot touch it. But the Thermaltake power supply when connected needs at least 10 minutes before trying again where with the Coolermaster it works every time? I need thid to work as this system has cost me a lot of money. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have put the latest bios update on the motherboard and no change. Thanks to all that reply. :)

nvidia chipsets have the tendency to overvolt. Particularly the ram. If say your ram needs 2.1v, you set it to one notch under that in bios.

So set up your bios when you get the pc to post. Save & exit.

I think it may be your ram. Try one stick of ram in each of the slots. Once the pc posts, set up bios. Do not add ram. Try to reproduce the problem you're experiencing. You might have to clear cmos.

If none of above helps, when this no-power happens, unplug power cord for 5 mins, plug it back it, power on, what happens?

I have tried the ram individually and have set to spec. The ram I have is 1.7volts and timing is 9,9,9,24. No matter if I set this too proper specs at 1333 or clock down to 1066 on the ram it heats to a point you cannot touch it within a few minutes. Only thing that throws me is that with a cheap CoolerMater 650W power supply the machine runs stable although not with the 9800 GX2 though. I'm at a loss on this system and have spent tons trying to get it right. Hope I can figure this out soon.
