Hi all,
So decided to try and do a clean install of Windows (8.1 initially) today, but the installation could not proceed, as I was getting error "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation". Decided to try Windows 7, and was still receiving the same message.
Did the following steps after burning to a disc.
1. Boot with the installation media.
2. Enter Repair options menu.
3. Open CMD
4. Type "diskpart.exe" without quotes
5. Here you should take a step back if you're not an it pro. Be careful if you have data on your PC which you want more than your life.
6. Type "list disk". A list of installed storage devices will be displayed. Choose the desired one in step 7.
7. select disk x Replace x by the number adjacent to the disk you want to choose.
8. After selecting the disk, type "list partitions". This will display the list of partitions present on the selected disk.
9. Select the partition where you want to install windows by typing "select partition x" replace x by the number adjacent to the partition you choose.
10. Finally type "active". This will mark the selected partition as active. Exit the diskpart utility and 'restart' the installation. You might need to reboot again.
Following that, I the installation was able to progress further, however it then stuck on 'Completing Installation' or Finalizing Installation - Whatever the last step is, the progress bar at the bottom seemed to be at about 90%. Windows wouldn't let me cancel here, so I restarted my computer.
Now I can't even boot to the windows installation disc, even that gets stuck on 'Starting Windows'. Trying to boot into safe mode hangs someway through the loading screen.
Does anybody have any solution to help me get back to the start up disc?
Thanks.
