[citation][nom]rand_79[/nom]typewriters are loud he could just get a 199$ netbook... or a voice recorder.[/citation]

Or here's a crazy thought. A pen and some paper for $2. I guess if you are under the age of 30 you are incapable of writing. Or does it just take too much time to draw smiley faces on the page.

That's distracting and I don't think the student is doing it because he has no money to buy a laptop ($368 will get you sufficient one), so I don't feel sorry for him.

Also didn't he say "I'll download the lecture" or something similar? means he has desktop at home or dorm room. Yes, this is just a prank/for fun.

Note: yes he can't even type (at least he's doing this on purpose)

hahaha, nice.

if i was in that class i would think it to be hilarious; however, i would want him to stop. it is a disturbance. if you can afford books you can afford a laptop. there's also something called a pencil and/or pen. there's no lawsuit here; if a professor finds you a disturbance they can ask you to leave, simple as that.

Heh, nice prank. Frankly I'm pretty sure that 90% of people in lectures with a laptop are NOT taking notes - they're updating FB, etc., surfing, IM'ing or whatever. I'm more surprised that people with laptops actually pass their classes....

Very funny. I'm annoyed that the author thinks it's faster to take notes on a laptop though. I can write faster than you can type any day. How is this possible? Because notes are more than text. Don't forget to subtract the time wasted on booting, charging, fiddling, surfing, etc. Also the time wasted by whoever earned the money to buy your overpriced electronic typewriter. Admit it. What was the justification for a laptop in college? To write papers and/or take notes - the same justification used for the last twenty years. Yeah, yeah, it's nice to get web content and there's classroom content now online. Desktops aren't portable blah blah. There was always the computer lab, even 20 years ago, you didn't need your own computer and I just got another bachelors degree a few years ago. tried using a laptop to take notes. Bleh - it's too slow. Tried onenote, still too slow. Pen and paper is still the best UI.
