Good afternoon (maybe)

I have a friend looking to buy a laptop for her daughter who will be going to college soon, she is looking to spend $1000 or less preferably for a laptop that is reliable and hopefully lasts for the entirety of her college?

Any recommendations or help is greatly appreciated.

I think our company gets a discount through Dell / HP as well

A specific model is a poor recomendation, IMO. Rather, feature recommendation are better. Only SSD (500GB+) storage built-in (a USB external HDD is recommended for backups). Get 16GB RAM. A docking station to handle a large monitor and full sized keyboard/monitor. Don't spend on discrete graphics.
The built-in display size is related to weight. Bigger display == heavier. A daughter probably wants light weight.
A Microsoft Surface might be desirable, but is expensive.
