Stupid question about fan speed

I know this may sound dumb, but I just want to make sure. Right now I have a CPU fan running at 5400rpm and it's probably gonna be running that fast forever since I'm OC. But I connected it to those speed things where you adjust the voltage to turn down the rpms... So anyways can I just take it off and connect it straight the the motherbaord and will it just operate at 5400rpm? I would guess yes, but I'm not really sure. If the voltage/speed selector doesn't need to be there, I wanna take it out cuz I don't care about noise. Thanks in advance!

You can do that. In fact, a 5400RPM fan should work fine on your board (some 7000RPM fans were overloading the circuit).
