I was helping a friend diagnose his crashing PC and as part of that I installed his graphics card in my machine (3070ti). The crashing behaviour continued on my PC and we determined that the GPU was the issue and I've put in my old card (3070). But this crashing behaviour (crashing out of games into windows) has continued even with all old verified components. Tried running heaven and my system still crashes.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled my GPU drivers with DDU and have reset Windows. Not sure what else to try at this point.

My Specs

I5 13600KF
32 GB Corsair Vengance 3200Mhz (4 * 8GB)
Gigabyte B760 DS3H DDR4
Gigabyte Aorus 850W PSU
Asus ROG 3070

Friends old specs

Gigabyte 3070ti
Corsair 850W
NZXT N5 Z690

Friend has given up and has new system, so I only need to get mine working.

Update: When the game crashes GPU usage suddenly spikes to 100% just before crashing

You might want to pass on the specs to your build apart from the specs to your friend's build, to help offer some semblance to what you're dealing with. BIOS version for your friend's motherboard? How old is the PSU in your friend's and your build? The RTX 3000 series is a power hungry card.

You should also bring your GPU's seller and manufacturer into the loop with an email in case you need to move forward with an RMA.

Updated as requested.

My PSU is less than 2 years old, the 3070 was second hand and my friend is already planning to RMA his card. My card was working perfectly until I put his card in my system. His PSU was probably 3 years old.

I updated his bios as part of the troubleshooting process and it was still crashing on the latest version. My BIOS is June 2023 but again this was all working 3hrs ago.
