Core Temp usually reads my CPU temp around 40 degrees Celsius ever since I added a Masscool CPU cooler (its that $20 at Newegg).

Well recently I've seen the temperatures rise, from 40 to a regularly occurring 44, and now its hovering at 47. Under absolutely no load.

Its been a month and a half since I installed the fan.

What is wrong here?

What thermal paste did you use?

If you used what was supplied with the fan I would order some MX-2 and reinstall it with that. Short of that, just try to re-seat the heatsink.

So shoddy thermal paste? Could be, I thought it looked as cheap as the package it came in....

So MX2? Re-seating? The fan screws on, so unless the fan somehow is unscrewing itself...

I have a feeling either it's somehow "moved" a bit and just needs to be re-seated or the thermal paste might "bleed out."

MX-2 is supposed to be better than AS5 for air cooling. I doubt the fan unscrewed itself as you said. Either way I'd take a look at it and see what's up. MX-2 is also supposed to have a life span of 8 years.
