Suggestions for a HDD

I'm having a hard time finding a great hard drive. I prefer TigerDirect because there's no taxes or shipping charges. I assume to get the fastest hard drive, that would be sata 6.0 GB/sec, 7,000RPM (10,000 is too pricey), 64 cache. Any suggestions for a 500 GB HDD? I think I only need 500GB because this is only a gaming rig. This is the motherboard that I will purchase: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3.

Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM Caviar Blue!

This hard drive is the best mid-range hard drives out there. We run a computer repair shop and THIS is the drive that we always use as a replacement in customers computers.

For 500GB, you just can't beat the price. In my 15 years of business I have seen a few hard drive companies come and go, rise and fall. Maxtor was the beast hard drive of all time (until Seagate bought and crushed them). Now, Western Digital holds the best drive, as Maxtor once did.

If you are looking for a great all around basic hard drive, then this is for you. If you are looking for speed and performance such as needed with a "gaming rig" then choose Western Digital BLACK series.

There is no noticeable difference between mechanical HDD's in the same rpm group (7200rpm in your case). None of them can saturate the SATA 3GB interface (regardless of them being advertised SATA 6GB) so buy the one that fits your budget and size from any major manufacturer like WD, Seagate, Samsung or Hitachi.

Thanks for the replay. What do you think of this HDD, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=744346&Sku=TSD-1000AS7; how will I know that it isn't a noisy HDD? Luck, good batch etc?

My budget is a $2K gaming rig. $600 of that is going towards HD 7970. I'm thinking about the Asus Maximus IV now (I'm bouncing around in the mobo area). I surely don't want to spend $200 on a HDD.

That is their newest drive with single platter design and should be as good as any, I would consider buying that if I was in the market for one.
