Suggestions for a new monitor

Greetings people!

I'm planning on purchasing a new monitor, used mostly for gaming (and some student/work projects) and would really appreciate some recommendations and/or suggestions.

I'm aiming for a 1920x1080, 144Hz, 24 inch. The price range should be max 300€, maybe 400€ if it's a promising one.
I've only ever played on 1920x1080, so I'm not sure if a higher resolution would do me any favors.

You can get a decent monitor for 300-400. What GPU do you have? If you have an AMD GPU, you should get a monitor with freesync. If you have a Nvidia GPU, gsync may be out of your price range.

I prefer IPS panels over TN panels. TN panels are cheaper and have a better response time. But IPS panels have better viewing angles and have better color. Both of the panels you chose are TN.

If it were me, I would look for a panel with IPS, 144hz, Freesync (if you have AMD). For me, I would want a 27" monitor, but that is up to you.

As far as a higher resolution, that depends on your GPU. If you have a 1060/580 or lower, then stick with 1080p. If you have a 1070 or higher, then 1440p is a viable option.

I've read about how TN panel has the shortest response time, making the picture smoother and nicer when something is moving fast on the screen, but I don't know how big of a difference compared to IPS that makes in practice; it's a dilemma.

What's your system specs? What vid card are you using? There's a lot of variety out there from which to choose, but we need an idea of what you're working with as a point of reference to make a suggestion or recommendation.

Edit: Thank you for the clarification. Based on what you've got, finding one with G-Sync in that price range may be difficult but not completely undoable.

TN panels typically have a 1ms response time. Decent IPS panels will have a 5ms response time. 5ms and under is considered good. For me, I cannot see a difference between them. But if you are a big esports gamer or are into quick twitch shooters, then you may see the difference.

Since you have a 1070, I would go with a 1440p monitor. You have the GPU to push it and it looks great. I recommend 27" due to pixel density. It is the perfect size for 1440p. It may be difficult to get a IPS panel at 27" 1440p in your price range. So TN may be the way to go.

Opinions are just that and vary greatly as they always will. IPS vs VA vs TN falls into that and much like the Intel and AMD arguments, each will have their fans and detractors. Moving on...

The MSI panel won't serve him much purpose since it's a FS based monitor but will still allow him the high frame rates he desires. I don't disagree with you on VA panels.

G-Sync isn't bad by any means and does work better than FS but you pay a steep premium for it for sure. If he can get it and doesn't want to make the jump up to 1440p, why not consider it?

I agree the panel type argument is never clear when it all overlaps but it's much easier to compare monitor model vs monitor model. I'd rather take 1440p va no gysnc than gsync 1080p or gsync tn 1440p. Gsync is just not worth it vs lower res or worse image. You have tearing, you limit fps. Nvidia has fast sync which works on any monitor since it just drops the extra frames. Tearing could still happen below but it's less common.

Local prices may not be better, like amazon.de is 430€ and that's from germany to germany. Other places don't have as high shipping and I'm not sure you are even looking because I'm finding slovenia stores with them and I don't even live in slovenia. But like other places in eu, the prices are high. Even with 90€ shipping, it can be cheaper. You might be able to find the samsung c24fg73 which uses the same panel as the g24c. The samsung is better and usually costs more. I wouldn't be surprised that the other monitors people have mentioned are the same price issue.

Not only shipping costs, there's also "duty" costs which are far mor expensive.
So for the MSI Optix MAG27CQ you mentioned before I'd have to pay 580€ on Newegg.

I see that 2K monitors are far beyond my price range so I've decided on a 27inch for 1920x1080 144Hz.

I'll most likely go with Asus VG278Q.

I have 2 Acer monitors and they are great. AOC has decent prices, but they are a budget brand. Not sure how their quality is.
