[SOLVED] Suggestions on RAM

Anyone have suggestions on RAM? I’m shooting for some 3600MHz C16 ram. I’m not real familiar with what all the timings mean other than lower is better I think. Budget isn’t really an issue. I’m willing to go with some 3200 MHz C16 ram also if it’s more stable usually.

I went with the below RAM but am returning it cause no matter what I tried the XMP would not work nor would setting everything manually work so I could not get it to run at its rates speed.

G.Skill RipJaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin SDRAM PC4-28800 DDR4 3600 CL16-19-19-39 1.35V Dual Channel Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GVKC

And by not work I mean I would continuously get BSOD. I got some different BSODs but the majority of the time is was always MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. By tweaking it I could get it to work for varying times. Sometimes it would get into windows and work for ten minutes and other times a hour or two. I could play some games and it be fine for a bit then BSOD. Just didn’t seem stable what so ever. I tried both XMP 1&2. Tried adjusting voltages, speed and timings myself still didn’t work. I tried XMP with selecting both yes and no for intel stock settings and this wouldn’t work either. I’m not OC savy so I could have done something wrong but I watched multiple videos and guides and have just decided to return it and get a different set of RAM.

I’m looking at getting the below ram, but it has the same speed, cas latency, timings, etc. so idk if it will work but want to try.

G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin RGB PC4-28800 DDR4 3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 1.35V Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC

My current build is the following :

I7-9700k (not OC’d yet)
Asus Rog STRIX 1080ti
Asus ROG Maximus XI hero WiFi
Ram - the ram I specified above

I’ve checked the QVL for my motherboard and I don’t believe neither of the above are on it, but I’ve read multiple things saying this isn’t something to swear by as those are just RAM that worked during quality control. This doesn’t mean others won’t work. If someone has a similar set up could you tell me what RAM works for you? Ideally I want some and just be able to turn XMP on and forget about it. I plan on OCing my CPU but really don’t feel like wasting much time trying to get RAM to run at its rated speed. I spent this whole past weekend dealing with the current RAM I have to no avail.

Try this it worked for me.
Go to your oc tab
Go to your dram frequency select 3200 on the drop down menu
I didn’t load xmb profile
Set manually the memory voltage to 1.350v (You can try higher like 1.400v too)
Set the SOC voltage to 1.1250v
Then go to dram timing configuration
Cas latency I entered 16
Ras to cas (Delay to read) I entered 19
Ras to cas(delay to write) I entered 19
TRP I entered 19
Tras I entered 39
Then I Disable Gear Down and Power Down mode
Save and exit
When you get a solid post on the 3200 frequency, restart, go to bios and increase the memory speed by one step at a time. You can load windows at each interval to test the stability. Wash rinse repeat until you've reached the 3600hmz

Yes I updated the BIOS and all drivers. Resintalled windows for a clean install. Even fresh installed my GPU drivers as well. I have tried everything I researched to no avail

I have the TridentZ neo 3600mhz. Had the exact problems your are having now. I couldn’t get it to 3600mhz. But it’s because my motherboard sucked(ASRock B550AM) I ended up getting a X570 motherboard tweaking the bios without xmb profile enable and got it to 3600hmz

Hmm well I guess I still might try it. My board is a pretty nice mobo so hopefully it will work. If this one doesn’t I’ll probably just find some good 3200 MHz RAM and see if that works better.

I have the exact same G.Skill 3600 memory modules you listed, but I also have a Ryzen 2600x. The 2000 series of Ryzen are known to be pretty hit or (mostly) miss with 3600 memory. Better to set your sights on 3200 memory and if budget really isn't an issue, shoot for 3200 CL14 memory. Ryzen gets a much bigger boost from lower Cas than it gets from higher frequencies... That being said. I've fooled around with the timings on the G.Skill 3600 ram and now have it set to a modified 3333 CL14, which is as high a frequency I could use with the Cas 14 without encountering errors.

If you can’t get the desired 3600mhz I would set it back to the speed that was stable. And just be happy with that until you can upgrade to a motherboard that’s lets you run your 3600 speeds. On my old motherboard i had to settle with 3266. Until I upgraded my motherboard

I have tried essentially all this except for the gear down and power down mode stuff. I may try that.

This is a brand new Mobo though that is rated to run much higher than 3600 MHz. It shouldn’t be the Mobo causing that issue.

I honestly couldn’t tell you much about your motherboard, sorry bud. All I know is I bought the gigabyte X570 Aorus elite and I was able to achieve the 3600mhz as advertised on the box
