HI there,

I have this old laptop my fried just gave me saying it dosent work and that he didnt needed it. It was a simple fix I just had to reinstall Windows and i was up and running, I opened up CPU-z to see the spec and it has a celeron b830 processor and 2 GB of RAM, its a lenovo E49 (3464), and is a well built sturdy machine. The only problem is that it is just not usable with current components, especially the 2Gb ddr3 RAM, it only has one slot. My question is that I searched on google for compatible processors with b830 and it shoulld me a whole bunch of list. So if i buy say an compatible i7 and swap the processors then ill get an upgrade for not much price. I just want to know if those processors are compatible

Cheers!

Your only problem, without doing any research, is that most likely you will not be able to change the CPU, since that is a low-cost unit and they typically come with soldered-on CPUs.

Current CPU (Intel Celeron B830) is not soldered on -- it's a PGA fit (Pin Grid Array). Soldered on CPUs are BGA (Ball Grid Array):

(When you're not sure, some research is advised before attempting to help).

Atharva_2001 - -- can't help with CPU compatibility as laptop makers generally don't publish that info -- to be campatible the BIOS would need to support it too --- just 'cos it fits is no guarantee that it will work. May be Lenovo can help you.

Thanks to all... i'll do some more research and check if the bios can accept any other processor and I'll see if I could get a decent processor and upgrade the RAM too.

Cheers
