Hello all,

I’m currently using HP probook 4530s laptop with SSD and Win 10 pro OS. I have purchased a new laptop HP 450 G6, with HDD and DOS on it. I want to use the SSD from my old laptop (4530s)in my new laptop (450 G6), can I just remove the ssd and replace it with the HDD? ( I know most like it won’t work). How can I use my old SSD in the new laptop without losing data and reinstalling windows all over .
Please suggest.

The download tool will let you download the ISO & Create the bootable USB Flash drive. You will need one 4GB or larger.

What other drives? Most laptops only have 1 drive in them.

  • First I would link the current (old laptop) Win10 activation to your MS Account. (You can create one during the process). Write down your username & password!!
  • Next step should be a full backup (Image is preferred) of everything on the old laptop. I would suggest Macrium Reflect to create the image. It's fast, easy to work with & Restore, AND the paid version will let you restore to New hardware... You will need an external drive for this.
  • Then I would simply plug in the drive to the new laptop to see if it boots up. You can switch the activation at a later time to your MS account if it even wants you to. I suspect it will not since it is already linked to your MS account and is now hardware agnostic.
  • Be sure to install an unactivated version of windows onto the old laptop if you plan on putting a drive into it.

If you do reinstall Windows instead, Keep in mind that a new installation will not be aware of any of the software installed under the old Windows and most all of them will no longer work, requiring they be re-installed as well.
