switch does not see main pc

Hi, My set up is:
Modem to Router to Main PC via Cat5
Router to Garage Switch via Cat5
Garage switch to garage pc via cat5
router to Living Room switch via cat5

Problem: Garage PC sees internet via switch to Router, but cannot see Plex Server nor anything else on Main PC.

Question: How do I set up Garage PC to see Main pc via the swith to the router?

Any help greatly appreciated. My level is "enough basic knowledge to get in trouble"...

1 router and two switches, or could be a second router acting as switch.

If there is a second 'router acting as a switch'. that could be the issue.

Modem -> router -> switches -> devices.
A second router in there may/will create a second subnet, and as such the two could not see each other.

OK, I am at work now, so I will check the "switch" in the garage to see if in fact it is an old router I had laying around...that is very possible. If it is a router what should I do...scrap it and replace it with a true switch? or can the router functions be disabled?

A new switch is guaranteed to work, and be less hassle. And maybe faster.

But, to turn off the router functions:
Turn off DHCP
Give it a static IP address from the main router
Turn off WiFi

Thanks for the info..think I will pick up a switch and see what happens...may even have one laying around..
