Hi,

I've upgraded my laptop from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and I've done a clean install using the "Reset this PC" option in the "Settings>Update & Security>Recovery" . So apps and drivers have been deleted and settings restored . (I kept my files)

I downloaded the drivers from Acer website and I Installed them but I've got a problem with "TouchPad Synaptics Driver" .

When I wanted to install it , it said :

But when I wanted to uninstall the previous version (17.0.15.0) from "Programs and features" it said :

Because there isn't any folder called "Synaptics" in the "C:\Program Files" .

So The second time I selected "Yes" (for installing the new driver) and I think the new driver (19.0.7.33) was installed properly .
I checked the driver version in "Device Manager" and it was correct (19.0.7.33) but in "Programs and features" the version was still 17.0.15.0 .

After that I uninstalled the driver from "Device Manager" in Safe Mode but I didn't mark "Delete the driver software for this device." and I reinstalled it in Safe Mode too .
Still no folder for "Synaptics" in "C:\Program Files" and no way to uninstall "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" from "Programs and features" .
So I uninstalled the "Synaptics HID Device" from "Device Manager" again (not in Safe Mode) but this time I selected the option to delete the driver package from the system then I selected "Scan for Hardware changes" and I restarted the PC .
Nothing happend ... So after the restart I selected "Scan for Hardware changes" again and a new device called "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" was added . I couldn't still uninstall the "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" from "Programs and features" .
Again , I installed the new driver I had downloaded from the website and I think just the name of the "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" has been changed to "Synaptics HID Device" and the driver has been updated .

I also used a third-party software called "Geek Uninstaller" to uninstall the "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" from "Programs and features" but it couldn't do it too and I got the same error message .

I think before I upgrade to Windows 10 , "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" wasn't in my "Programs and features" list in Windows 8.1 .
Plus, when I reseted Windows 10 (using "Reset this PC" option) , it wasn't in the "Removed Apps" list !
So maybe it came with Windows 10 or after reseting Windows 10 !

What should I do now to get rid of this error for uninstalling the previous version and remove it from "Programs and features" ?!
And How can I have the "Synaptics" folder in "C:\Program Files" when the driver doesn't make it ?! 😀

THX

Thank you

I uninstalled it from Device Manager and I ran CCleaner's Registry Cleaner three times till I get no more errors about Synaptics .
First time I got two issues/errors .
Second time I got another issue with Synaptics .
And the Third time no issues about it.

I just fixed the issues with Synaptics and not all registry issues .
Because I thought that maybe it deletes something that is necessary and I face new problems !
Just like what it's Browser Monitoring did ... CCleaner asked me to free about 2.5 GB of space and I don't know why I selected "Yes" then it started deleting all my Mozilla Firefox's history , cache and cookies that were necessary !!! Now I have to Sync them again !

About the Synaptics :
I checked "Programs and features" and "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" has been gone .
However, after rebooting the system when I tried to install the new driver it gave me the that error again :

So I selected "Yes" and it got installed properly like before but again it didn't make the "Synaptics" folder in "C:\Program Files" !
It seems just "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" has been removed from the list and nothing else has been changed !

Sorry for the late reply ... I was too busy and I didn't have the time to test it .

I tried it but it didn't solve the problem too .
Will the setting return to its original state after restarting ?! or I should enable Driver Signature Enforcement again ?!

Right now :
Device manager says the driver version is 19.0.7.33 . (Which I want to be)
Windows Registry Editor says it's 17.0.15 . (Which I don't want to be)
There is no folder for Synaptics in "C:\Program Files" . (Which I think it should be)
There is a file called "SynTP.sys" in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers" .
There is also a folder with some files for Synaptics in "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\rz011dmouex.inf_amd64_5511608ecb751ae0" which Registry Editor says that it's InstallDir .

But these two websites say that it will return to its default value (which I think is "Enabled") after restarting .
http://www.technipages.com/enable-disable-device-driver-signing
Now Device Driver Signing should be disabled, allowing you to install any driver you like in Windows 10 until you reboot.
http://www.isunshare.com/windows-8/how-to-disable-or-enable-driver-signature-enforcement-in-windows-8-and-8.1.html
Note: This solution is easy, but it can only be set when the computer is booted. In addition, the setting will return to its original state after restarting.

However, I tried running this command "BCDEDIT /set nointegritychecks OFF" in Command Prompt (Admin) to enable Driver Signature Enforcement but it says :
An error has occurred setting the element data.
The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted.

Also the second website says :
For your information, the command to close Disable driver signature enforcement (or enable driver signature enforcement) is:
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

(Note : it's DDISABLE not DISABLE)
but after that it says :
After these 4 steps (after running this command) , you can use uncertified drivers on Windows 8 and 8.1 (64 bit) whenever you want.
Which means this command Disables Driver Signature Enforcement !!!!!!!!!
So what does this command really do ?! ENABLE OR DISABLE ?!
I ran this command and it said :
The operation completed successfully.
So how can I know "Driver Signature Enforcement" is in which value/state right now ?!

Now I have two problems 😀
