hi all, i have a 5TB drive, about 90% full. and i tried connecting the drive to the front USB and rear USB, nothing happens. i waited half a day both times and absolutely nothing happens. i have tried this with USB drives, 2GB, 4GB all the way to 1TB, various drives with NTFS files on them, even just testing, putting txt file or word document and seeing if the drive will show up, but doesn't and nothing happens.
then i bought brand new drive to test out, unpacked and connected to the NAS, and it showed up and i could format it in the file format of the Synology system and what it offers, then create a shared folder and so on. i tried this for example for HYPER BACKUP, and it only showed "usbshare1" under shared folder, but nothing would show until i had to right click on "usbshare1" and create a folder, then this folder I named "backup" showed in "File Station". only then was i able to pick this external hard drive for HYPER BACKUP.
but my question is:
how do i or can i connect any external USB drives (with FAT32 or NTFS formatted) to the NAS directly, so i can copy all the drive contents/ files directly to the NAS and not via a Windows machine on the network. i don't want to use the network for many TB's of files to copy to NAS.
doing all this with a local (NAS) admin account/ belongs to group administrators. i have "exFAT access" installed also.
