[citation][nom]strandwolf[/nom]Why isn't the monitor dealt with in these system builds? Monitors seem to be improving along with the other gear, although perhaps not as quickly. Still, it's an essential component; we are supposed to just scrounge up one that's been in use when all the other parts are new? Also, what about the Seagate Cheetah 15K.6 for use as hard drives in the $4500 build?[/citation]

I've had a total of 3 monitors in the last 12 years - dunno if I'm just special, but monitors aren't replaced anywhere near as often as the base system.

Thanks to Crashman and cangelini for being actively involved in the discussion. It's good to have you guys return fire and justify your decisions.

Hmmm...me too: 14" Impression CRT, 15" NEC TFT, and now, for several years, a friend's cast-off 7 or so year old Dell CRT 19" Trinitron. It's losing its pizazz, and I'd like a suitable replacement, and intend to upgrade when I replace my system, which is too embarrassing to expose (I will admit that my OS is Win ME...can't believe I typed that here). Something along the lines of the Dell 24" 2408wfp-monitor. If I were to blow 4 large on a system, you can believe the monitor would be of comparable caliber.

Why do system integrators insist on installing 8 GB of RAM on a system that can address only 3GB? That's wasting more than half the RAM ... it simply never will get used unless you're running x64, and my friends, hardly any gamers ever do *that*. Indefatigable idocracy ensues.

I'm running vista x64 atm ? And I have definetly more games than other software...

Id love to see an i7 series of builds once Intel gets them out the door in enough quantities to ensure newegg has them in stock when you need 'em.

Why Limit yourself ???
Because you don't the money !!!
You must work hard to earn the money!!!

You can dream about this machine, at least it's free!!!

There are plenty of people who can afford such a system to be honest. Most are just too cost concious to buy one.
Basicly anyone who has a boat, a summer residence or a classic car could have bought one of these mashines every now and then - but choose otherwise. And a lot of people who don't have those things I mentioned, might still have the cash spare to buy such a system.

In short - many people can afford it, if they really want it.
