Hello, Im to make a long overdue system change to my pc. For context purposes, my current main configuration is:

CPU: i5-6600
GUP: GTX 1070
MOBO: LGA1151 H170

And Im looking to upgrade to:

CPU: i9-13900
GPU: RTX 4070
MOBO: LGA1700 Z790

I know other hardware needs to be upgraded as well, but my main question regarding making this change is about what would be the procedure regarding the whole Windows installation. Is my understanding I can use the same SSD drives I have, but can these just be plugged to the new MOBO along with all the other components and Windows will start without any problem? or does something needs to be done for this to start/work without any problem?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice any can give.

If your OS is installed on one of these drives that drive will need to get a new install of the OS because the motherboard and CPU drivers will be installed on it and it may not update when it detects the new hardware.

Does the information on the drives and software installed get lost by making this new install ?

With a hardware change of that level, you need a full OS wipe and reinstall.

Yes, whatever is on the current or desired OS drive WILL be wiped out.

I see, I have 2 SSD drives, so I can put anything I want to save on the 2nd drive (the one without Windows) and then just do the full format/wipe with just the 1st drive installed and once everything is done I can just plug in the 2nd drive and anything should be there, correct?

"everything" as in your personal files.

NOT applications and programs.

Read through that linked tutorial.

You don't really need to "full format/wipe" anything manually. The Windows installer you use will do what is necessary. You should be shown all partitions on the intended drive immediately after you boot from the installer. You would manually delete ALL partitions shown by checking them and Windows will then install to the "empty" drive.

After the Windows installation is complete, you can connect the second drive. It will likely appear as drive D. You can then copy your PERSONAL DATA from it to the new drive if you wish. NOT installed programs.
