[SOLVED] "System Thread Exception Not Handled" when installing programs ?

About 80% of the time when I try to download programs, my pc will crash with the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" error. I have tried to read the memory dump files with windbg and also bluescreenview and they both say the driver causing it is NTFS.sys. I'm going to link a few dump files. This started happening about 20 days ago. Any help with finding a fix for this will be appreciated.

Minidump files folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pf6myiA3L-LxaG6eQnd50_nST462DJ6S?usp=sharing
Specs:
Ryzen 9 5900x
32 gb ddr4 3600 mhz
Nvidia GTX 1080
Asus b550-f ROG strix
Crucial MX500 (boot drive)
256gb sk hynix drive

Things I have tried to fix the issue:

  • Reinstalling Windows
  • Changing Nvidia driver
  • Swapping back to my old RAM kit
  • Reseating SSD
  • Updating Windows

Hi, I ran the dump files through the debugger and got the following information: https://jsfiddle.net/a4y6b0vt/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.

I just got another bsod while playing valorant, however I got a different one this time.
I have uploaded the dump file to the original google drive folder. I do not know if it has anything to do with the original problem but I thought it would be best to keep this thread updated as I try to fix this issue.

Welcome to the forums.

Please always upload dump files to a new folder each time, and provide a new link each time. It's difficult for me to go back and go through what I've looked at so far, and have not looked at. Thanks.

I think this is the new dump... Results: https://jsfiddle.net/7toj1hzg/show

The vanguard driver has known issues, causing many people BSODs. We see it all the time here.
Nov 29 2021vgk.sysVanguard Anti-Cheat driver

Another guy named Colif should reply later.

No need to apologize. You didn't know. :)

Unfortunately there's not alot that can be done about that driver. Some people just have to choose, the game and continue with BSODs, or remove the game.

But, that driver may not be the only issue. Let's wait for additional comments.

I think Colif may have missed this thread, I'll remind him. @Colif

slaps self, i watched thread and then didn't look again

its not obvious what cause is in any of them. Strange seeing vgk.sys be the victim and not cause

bottom 2 victims could mean its Ethernet drivers, try running this and see if any newer - https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
could update chipset drivers - https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b550

if reinstalling windows didn't fix it, its probably hardware
Ryzen 9 5900x
32 gb ddr4 3600 mhz
Nvidia GTX 1080
Asus b550-f ROG strix
Crucial MX500 (boot drive)
256gb sk hynix drive

try running this on boot drive - https://www.crucial.com/support/storage-executive
not sure about SK hynix, they have downloads but whether any are tests? - https://ssd.skhynix.com/download/
can run crystaldiskinfo on them to check health as well (blue icons) - https://crystalmark.info/en/

since a lot of them mention ntfs it could be storage drives, but I feel that is a trap. I seen it too often to assume that. Its the Windows File system.

try running chkdsk on all your drives.

Are the ram sticks still the old or new ones? It didn't make a difference.

try running this - https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/prime95-download.html
Prime 95 how to Guide: http://www.playtool.com/pages/prime95/prime95.html
it will check CPU and ram.

what PSU do you have?

I have a corsair cx750m power supply. I just ran chkdsk and the issue still appears to occur. For some reason the Crucial drive test keeps aborting, which makes me think it's probably this drive causing the bsod. I have the latest chipset drivers currently. I'm going to run prime95 for an hour or so and see how that goes.

I just finished with the new windows installation and it doesn't get a bsod when installing programs anymore when using the sk hynix ssd. Thanks for helping me with figuring out the issue. I was hoping it was something other than the ssd but at least the issue has been singled out now. I'm going to order a new ssd probably in the next few minutes so that I can get my games and other applications.
