I have a Dell optiplex 790 about 8 gigs ram...
Gpu is 1050ti
PSU 550w Corsair
HD is 1tb
Processor is only i3 second gen

I wanna run new computer games on decent graphics. What should I do upgrade my CPU to i7 or buy a new system I can spend around 300$ for a refurbished desktop.. what should bi buy can you send links thanks

I think I can only use second gen processors with my mobo so idk if that's good enough I need some advice

I also have windows 10 already

Solution
I bought an i7 2600 off ebay for 70 bucks hope it works
If the CPU is any good, it should. It's on Dell's support list. The 4C/8T processor should make the old desktop a decent gaming PC. But if you like lots of eye candy in your games, I still think you'll be looking at a graphics card upgrade next ;-)

Dell Optilex 790 Mini tower
Gpu = Nvidia 1050 TI
PSU = 550 w Corsair
Ram = 8 GB
OS = Windows 10 64 bit
Hard Drive = 1 TB
CPU = i3 2120 @ 3.3 ghz

I'm trying to make a decent PC to run the newest games on PC. Should I just upgrade my CPU or buy a refurbished PC.

If I upgrade my cpu what should i upgrade it to? If I buy a refurbished, which one should I buy?

Thanks in advance.

I only have about ~300$ im willing to spend

can I put my 1050 TI in this? it says the gpu is integrated doesnt that mean its built into the mobo and cant be upgraded?

https://www.newegg.com/dell-optiplex-7040/p/1VK-0001-5B4B6?Item=9SIA7RBBVJ0579&quicklink=true

but ive read posts of people trying to upgrade it.. would by 1050 TI work.

What do you think about this as well https://www.newegg.com/hp-elitedesk...stations/p/1VK-001E-1XNZ4?Item=9SIABX7BED7341

they all say theyre integrated gpu?? Any help is appreciated.......

So Im trying to play modern video games. Is this too outdated of a rig to play them with? I hear I can only use 2nd gen intel CPU's with this mother board.

If I stuck a 2nd gen i7 in here do you think I could run the newest game titles? If so which i7 should I buy.

Or is it not even worth it should i just buy a refurbished pc somewhere. If so which one?

Or Should I buy a new case / mother board / CPU (pretty much all I need imo)

Any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

1050ti gpu isnt too bad for today's gaming? I can overclock it quite a bit. And are you 100% positive that a i7 2600 will fit in my mini tower? Can you send a link to a decent i7 I could buy for my mini tower? I would greatly appreciate it.

Ive read posts where the i7 2600 doesnt actually fit but I have a mini tower so idk.

Ig Ill take your word for it you look like a general with all those points and awards on your profile.

If you have the Mini Tower and not the micro tower or small form factor, the i7-2600 is on the CPU support list for that machine. You may have to get a bigger CPU cooler because the i3 was a 65W processor and the i7 is a 95W processor. But Dell may have used the same cooler for all their Intel builds then, I really can't remember.

You cannot rely on the retail CPUs listed by Intel or the retail chipset specifications when working with our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) motherboard, chipset, and bios. The following are the Dell validated i7 CPUs in this model by Dell part number =
706FY i7-2600,3.40GHz,4C,SandyBridge,D2 (Optiplex 790/990, Vostro 460/470, Alienware X51-R1, XPS 8300/8500)
605FF i7-2600S,2.80GHz,4C,SandyBridge,D2 (Optiplex 790/990, Inspiron One 2320, Vostro 360)

some copy pasta I found... apparently these are the only two i7's I can use in my mobo this is according to a dell.com admin.

which is better?
