Tascam us-428 driver for windows 7

I have a bad feeling Tascam won't release a driver for the Tascam US-428 for Windows 7. Does anyone know where anyone is?

You're bad feeling may very well be warranted. I contacted Tascam customer support and this is the email response I received:

"We do not have Windows 7 compatible drivers at the moment. We are working on Windows 7 drivers for all of our current audio interfaces, they will be available for download on our website very soon. This product is discontinued so there might not be a Windows 7 driver being developed."

Hopefully they'll release a driver, but it doesn't sound promising. I'd really prefer not to have to operate two different machines.

Apparently alot of Vista drivers will work with Windows 7, so the Vista ones Tascam released may work. My roomie is getting a new machine with Windows 7 next week, so I'll try plugging it in and use the Vista drivers and see.

please let us know how this worked out, i have to be able to use my Tascam US-428 and this driver in question is the only thing holding me back from upgrading to Windows 7 immediately.

well my roomate came home with a new laptop running Windows 7 so I was able to give the US-428 driver a shot--- DID NOT WORK. It actually stopped in the middle of installation and said something like "This driver does not work on this version of windows".

so yea, unless Tascam updates the drivers we are outta luck as far as upgrading to 7 and using the 428. which sucks because the 428 is AMAZING.

Vista drivers do work in Windows 7 (I'm using them right now). However you need to have the drivers in their extracted format and let Windows handle installing them instead of the Tascam install program. Still trying to find what site I downloaded the uncompressed drivers from though. Will post when I find them.

I have my tascam since 2000 or so and never I been able to understand it. I only want to select a Track and click space when I start to play and click space when I finish to play and then, select aonther track an do the same. Could any of you to recommend me the right hardware to do so, that can run in windows 7? I would change my tascam for... Thank you, and sorry for be so simple

vista drivers work only by manual install. bad thing is you have to close the device before shut down the pc . otherwise win 7 freezes. this means that the device can work in win 7. it is a matter of an easy driver modification - adaption by the vendors. i hope tascam will release a driver (oh what a major cost for them!), or a user with skill could make a custom driver.

Ok this post is the only way to make your lovely us-428 working atm with windows 7 32,64 bit.First of all download the official vista driver v 3.40 from http://www.tascam.com/details;8,15,138,19.html. After that you have to run the setup. During the installation steps you wll get an error message that the driver couldnt be installed. Bypass it!!!!!Now you must have a folder with the name US428 in your program files.This is the place where you must seek for the driver under the manual istallation process.Go to device manager, there you will find a unoknown device (this must be your us428 exept if you have others devices without drivers lol), righ click on it and choose update driver. Then choose the ''search my computer" option.Seek for your driver at US428 folder that we mentioned before and let windows handle the rest.That's it now you have your US-428 working.!!!!!

yes we know that, i said before that the problem starts if you forget to close the device before shut down. this driver works with major problems. we need a new one.

Impy, thank you very much. My tascam is running very well in windows 7, but...I´m not able to set the multimedia option because the file asiomme.dll is not running (could not be founded) Thus I cant no use mi microphone but the midi is working very well

I emailed Tascam, they will not be doing a Windows 7 driver for the US428.
If you're just using it as a MIDI <-> USB interface, then perhaps this cable would be a solution?

I was able to install on Win 7 Pro x64 from the extracted 3.40f Win driver. I'm able to record, but am getting about 3x the latency I was getting on XP Pro x64. Hopefully Asio-4-All will help :O

Well.. I, Like i'm sure many of you are like WTF tascam give windows 7 users a *bugless* driver already!

I have babied my us-428 for a very long time, I was an early adopter of the product and have thoroughly enjoyed it. When I made the switch from 10 years of OSX back to Windows for the sheer fact, I was tired of being monetarily taken advantage of by Apple, I soon realized my trusty US-428 was working but not correctly, I freaked out. I didnt want to go back to xp with a multicore cpu, So i just bit the bullet and worked with the terrible vista drivers until I could find a new audio interface that gave me the same joy..

I installed a program that I purchased way back in 2003 when I was using a windows laptop for recording my old vinyl. It's called Total Recorder. It records your audio stream.

I noticed that after I installed this program something magical happened.
The Tascam drivers would only install ASIO drivers which made it a task and a half to have show up natively in WIN7 and they hardly worked well without clipping and popping while making tunes. Also would hang your puter' if you shut down without turning the tascam off.

Oh yeah the "magic" is this

Total recorder actually finds the WDM, MME, and DX drivers that should have been installed with the tascam drivers. Now you can use them freely with pretty decent latency and the ability to shut your pc down without turning of the unit.. The recording latency may vary, but I toyed with abit and now having it working to my desired settings . Good workaround for "Big Blue" if I do say so myself

You could always attempt to install the driver through compatibility mode? Also, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and guidance.

I downloaded the latest Vista driver, opened the zip file to a folder, and right-clicked it in Windows 7 to change its compatibility to Vista SP2. I ran it, and it installed everything without a hiccup. I use the US-428 several times and month, and it seems to be working well with Adobe Audition.

Yes, it installs in compatibility mode, the device manager says it's working properly, but still, if you forget to turn the Tascam off, Windows 7 freezes at shutdown. And besides, at least in Audition, it is not recognized as an external controller, and without that, what's the point? It only serves as an input/output unit with a volume control. I think we definitely need a new driver.

I'm using my 428 with cubase 5 in win 7. everything works perfectly except for the shutdown issue. Installed the driver in vista compatibility mode.

Hi! I have installed US428 Win 3.40f driver in vista compatibility mode on my Acer Aspire 5741G-333G32Mn notebook but the sound is distorted and usb light on tascam is blinking when I try to play something. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem?

It looks like it is not problem with windows7. I have installed XP sp3 and problem remains. When I play somethin thorugh tascam, all others USB devices stop working. I think there is some kind of conflict with USB ports on Acer. Any solution?
