Hi, a few months ago, and after much research, i was considering getting a new T-bird system w/ the ABIT KT7-RAID motherboard but never got around to it... Since then, is there a better Tbird/motherboard combo out now since i've done my research? Possibly a DDR solution or something better? Or maybe Intel has gained some ground? All reccomendations are welcome!

- thanks

The TBird/KT7-Raid is still and excellent choice. However, if the RAID function is something you can live without, the Microstar K7T Pro2a would be my next choice. This board has the new 686b southbridge supporting ATA100 native, and is supposed to be one of, if not the, most stable KT133 board out.
As far as the speed of your TBird, just go with as much as you can afford. I mean a 900 can be had for $165 (w/o S&H). So it's a good time to buy.
That being said, we should start to see the first motherboards supporting DDR ram and the 133FSB TBirds ver shortly. If you wanna be on the cutting edge, wait for these boards to hit the market.

it nice to have the newest stuff when it comes out, but personally i tend to stay one step behind for a few reasons. first of all, the difference in price usually is not justified by the increase in performance. secondly, i wait a bit and let the bugs get worked out before i run to get a new platform. third, by giving it an extra month or two (i know it's like a lifetime in the computer world) we generally have more options available and we get to see numerous benchmarks to help us choose. that being said, if you get a t-bird/kt7 combo, i'm sure you will be happy. if you get a t-bird/ddr combo, i'm sure you will be happy, and i will be jealous

OUTDATED? No

DATED? Yes

The KT7-RAID is a wonderful board and is very easy to setup. If you have problems, though, don't expect any help from Abit. I still love that board and have had no complaints yet.

Does anybody know of a DDR board with RAID? I think it's still too early to tell.

Just have fun with it...If you want to buy now...get the KT7-RAID...if you want to wait....look for a DDR board....if you want to wait some more...get a Hammer setup....if you want to wait some more....?? Ya know??

Have A Good One,
