Asus A7V8X-MX w/ AMD 3000+ Barton.

This morning on power up I am getting no video signal, it's not making it to
POST and the system is sitting w/ fans on and all the various power lights
*on*, that is HD LED, POWER LED, Power light on the MB, and the light on the
DVD Player are all on and unblinking. There were no beeps.

Tried removing RAM, using new power supply, swapped out video card vs built
in, verifying no stand-offs were shorting it or something. Very strange,
worked fine last night and now no POST w/ the lights all on. Dead CPU? Any
ideas? Thanks -

Try a cmos reset with all power cables removed. If that gets you
going load optimised defaults, reboot and tweak.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried clearing RTC but no change unfortunately.
No beeps, all lights on. Hmm.

Do you have a floppy or HD data cable plugged in backwards?

You should remove almost EVERYTHING connected to the
motherboard. The only items that should be installed is
the CPU, the RAM, the keyboard, the speaker and a video card.
That is it - nothing more. If you happen to have plugged something in
backwards then the motherboard may not work properly. Once you get
video, plug in ONE hard drive and ONE floppy and make sure that they
work. Then, you should add one item at a time making sure that
everything else still works.

It is also possible that the bottom of the motherboard
is shorted to the case. Make sure that you only have
metal spacers located where there are screw holes on the
motherboard. The last resort is to completely remove the
motherboard from the case, lay it on top of cardboard
and see what happens.

Was everything working fine before or is this a new build?

Thanks everyone, good suggestions all. Unfortunately even w/ minimal items
connected the problem remains. Some Googling on "Asus no POST lights on"
reveals similar symptoms pointing to CPU fry or Mobo fry. Tried 3 different
power supplies too. No stand-offs shorting, no backwards cabling, removed
battery, cleared the RTC jumper. Don't think the CPU fan ever went out
either leading to CPU death but who knows. It was the Asus micro-atx value
line, I'll try the CPU again on another system. Thanks -

I'm going through the same thing with my mobo. It's the board. I've
removed everything and it never POSTs, so it never beeps to let you know
nothing is installed. I've got a new board ordered because I'm tired of it.
