First time builder here.

Still waiting for my CPU cooler to arrive but I was eager to test my system. So I set everything up without a CPU cooler.

Motherboard: MSI MEG Z490 Unify

CPU: 10700k

As soon as I got to the BIOS page it gave me a warning of "CPU overheating", then the system shut down. I tried to 2 more times it didnt even get to the BIOS page before the system shuts down.

So did I fry my CPU?

Probably not but you didn’t do it any favors. What on earth would make you “test” a system without a CPU cooler? Please do some research before you end up with a paperweight.

I saw people on youtube tested their ryzen, even played games with in without a cpu cooler, so i figured just testing to see if my motherboard and ram functions wouldn't be an issue. I still dont understand why mine heats up so quickly.

Because I thought it was an error, after the third time I touched the cpu and felt it was hot lol
First time builder and you buy a 10700k and test without a cooler on it? That CPU was just released a few months back. You might not of fried it, but the BIOS would prevent you from trying to boot it up again. IT hit high temps because you don't have anything to cool it. Just wait for the cooler, install it and see what happens. If it doesnt work then you fried it.

All modern day cpu's require a cooler. Even 5 watt chips need a passive heatsink.

About the year 2000 they put in safety mechanisms in case heat sinks came off to shut down immediately.

You might have damaged it sorry to report. You might have got lucky and the protections kicked in in time. But anything over a 110 to 115 juncture has a tendency to degrade components.

Because a 10700k heats up faster than ANY Ryzen. You’re talking about a CPU that can pull well over 250 watts when stressed versus Ryzen chips that are pulling 65-80

I think that's why BIOS didnt come up after the first time? How would i know if i have already damaged it?

u most probably didn't, the pc was shutdown forcefully as a fail-safe to the CPU getting fried
since the CPU was overheating ,but don't try something like that again lol

It doesn't work. If it does, it's probably fine. It's likely fine because of the failsafes, but you sure did your best to try and destroy it!

Any video that has people running games on Ryzen without any cooling solution whatsoever is total nonsense. Links? Give me a couple hours to do some video editing and I can produce a video of me running Dark Souls on a gallon of milk.

look it depends on each cpu, your cpu and a ryzen cpu are alot different from each other, i think ur cpu heats up faster than a ryzen cpu, the ryzen cpu probably does not need a cooler as much as your cpu needs a cooler
