[SOLVED] Testing motherboard without CPU/RAM?

this is my 4th attempt at building a system, I've already returned 3 brand new motherboards, 4 processors & half a dozen RAM sticks, my next system (motherboard, processor, RAMs) is on its way. Before I build I just want to know if the motherboard is ok, & then move on to next step.

1st motherboard died after 3 days, 2nd motherboard was half dead on arrival (only cpu fan was running , no power in USB ports), 3rd motherboard was dead on arrival.

The one month old psu is fine, my 8 year old system is running with it.

any suggestions? my last option is to take to a professional to build it for me (that too in covid situation). 😏

Without CPU, RAM and eventually GPU any such test would be more than useless.
PS. Unless those components are used, second hand I would be really concerned with my installation, Try it first without mounting in the case.

I'm just assuming the motherboard was faulty, i was watching a youtube video, a guy who's in this business said motherboards are more likely to be faulty than processors. I just don't want to return the CPU for the fault of motherboard.

How clean is your power, i.e. voltage surges and sags?

The absolutely minimum build is stable power source, PSU, ground (either case or alligator clip to ground), motherboard, thermal paste, cpu with integral GPU or external GPU, cpu cooler (heatsink and fan or liquid) , 1 compatible dram module from qualified vendors list (QVL), and a display monitor. That should get you to a BIOS display.

Never seen that kind of failure rate. It's statistically improbable..,. not unless you're building 400 systems. But 3 failed builds out of 3 attempts? IDK...

I mean no disrespect but I think you'll need to have it professionally built. You can shadow the guy and learn from him.

OK so i received a new set of motherboard (MSI this time), RAM & CPU replaced. Once again I decided to install everything & build on my own & I did exactly what I did in the earlier 3 attempts with the same PSU I used before & CHA-CHING! system booted perfectly fine.

So I did receive some faulty hardware all the time & I wasn't doing anythin wrong.

Now I have a new problem, mouse & keyboard works fine in bios, but when I try to install windows, both shut off (probably not detected) 😕

any suggestions?
