Stupid senators, this is because they heard a rumor that "vista has problems"... never mind that it's so much more secure than xp. Government money at work here folks.

[citation][nom]estebanhillcoat[/nom]People, where do you live? Do you have a "different" version of VIsta there????1)Vista DOES NOT work BETTER than XP, in fact its clearly a downgrade. Is MUCH more INSECURE than XP because it´s slow
And win 98 is faster than xp on slow computers.
, resource hungry and FULL OF BUGS.2)Can´t believe i´m reading that some people try to even compare it with OS X. a)leopard OS X is a FAST, EFFICIENT and out-of-the-box secure
OSX is always hacked the quickest at hacking competitions
OS while Vista is insecure even without an inet
This statement is simply dumb
. connection.b)Leopard is a REAL upgrade from TIGER
Not really.... should have been called SP1
. It offers more speed and functions.c)Leopard works in 2 architectures (x86 & ppc) without problems. Vista hardly gets running on x86
Are you kidding? LOL I maintain more than a dozen Vista business machines with no problem. I also have more Macs than PC's..... you simply don't know what you are talking about.... this is not the place to be spouting BS..... you will get flamed here.
.e)User interface on OSX is unique, a mixture of refinement and simplicity. However, MICROSOFTS XP interface IS EASIER TO USE and more INTUITIVE. On the other side, VISTA´s inteface is like a woman
Like you know what a woman is like
with too much make up.Dont try to deny the fact that M$crosoft is still a MONOPOLY
First thing coming from you that makes sense
and believes that money has to be made based on extorsion
Now you went back to being dumb
.The truth is that, though no body needs vista cause XP
you probably said the same thing about XP when you couldn't give up win 98
, with lots of flaws does the job. M$ only cares about selling but when you don´t have COMPETITION you´re not pushed to do your best.REMEMBER THAT MICROSOFT IS SOFTWARE COMPANY!!! THEIR ENSIGNG ship ARE THEIR OSs, SO IF YOU ARE A CAR MAKER AND CAN´T GET YOUR BEST CAR START ENGINES YOU SHOULD RE-THINK YOUR STRATEGY AND PERHAPS SPEND MORE MONEY ON DEVELOPEMENT THAN ADVERTISING.
Are you using translation software?
PD:any way... they´re still making billions and that waht they care about.[/citation]

You should have to pass a quick test before being allowed to post.

I take that back.... I would be far less entertained if it were so.

Our legislative body is just as flawed as the general public, they don't know whats best, they just go along with what everyone wants. That is the real reason our educational system needs to be revamped - the ignorant masses are the ones who hold the power of the vote.

yeah, i agree if vista banned, OSX should be banned too, try hardware upgrade with that Mac...have fun 😀

As a computer teacher I wish I could show these kids stuff on vista and office 2007, I mean windows 7 is on its way into the market and won't be much different. Vista would be great, its a whole lot more secure than xp, and thats great news when there is kids involved.

I am also from Texas and am ashamed they are even thinking of doing this, just makes me feel like they are lazy and don't wanna train anyone on vista and they are using the "vista problems" as an excuse. I mean i have been running it on my laptop for two years and have had no problems.

I work in IT and as an IT professional I have also held back on implementing Vista in our network due to many factors. Not the least of which is driver support for scanners, printers and wireless network cards. I work for a regional library system with ten branch locations. We use some aging equipment that there simply wasn't support available for when I rolled out the OS refresh for 2008. The vendors seemed to imply they were not going to write drivers for 8 year old hardware which I can understand. Our replacement cycle would have us replacing that equipment in ~2011 at the latest. Software licenses for our existing PC's was also a factor. I have begun to purchase PC's with Vista licenses that allow an XP rollback. I hoped in 3 years all of our systems would support Vista and I could do a full region upgraded at that time. I would not want to have 1/2 XP and 1/2 Vista and have the staff and patrons fighting over systems. Rather than have a staff member in a branch bring their Vista laptop in and complain about not being able to install the Printer or the Micro film scanner it is better to ban Vista for now and migrate to it in a controlled fashion once we have accumulated the hardware and software upgrades we need.

our tax dollars could be better served using a secure linux platform vs the outrageous licensing fees from micro$haft. The sum of the cost of windows operating systems for a place i used to work totaled more than my yearly salary... for a small business. pathetic really. not to mention microsoft office... that's why many business' opt for open office. and just as an update, linux isn't free of cost for business' to run, just a MUCH lower cost in the long term.

[citation][nom]keither5150[/nom]@avericiaIf you can't figure out how to turn the UAC off, you need it.[/citation]
HAHA I was thinking the same thing!

I am not sure why everyone knocks vista. I have had it pre sp1 and never had any problems with it. Yes it is a resource hog, XP is garbage comaperd to Vista. XP garbage out of box, yes how soon people forget compatability issues with XP. SP1 fixed some. SP2 cause many programs to stop functioning properly and SP3 casue many machines to blue screen. XP more stable than Vista..LMAO I have never had one issue with Vista it by far blows XP out of the water. When i first installed vista I had close to 75 pieces of software that worked without any issues.
So Texas you stay with XP and have fun with the BSOD and the sad attempts at Service packs. To me windows XP is worse than Windows ME. As long as you have a decent computer with a dual core cpu and min 2 gigs of ram than Vista should work fine. And most compliants I read that people had with vista was it would not work with programs/hardware from 5-6 years ago. Upgrade people!!! Computer parts are dirt cheap these days.
This just shows that people are way behind the times in Texas. Yokels

the thing is, whats the point of going to vista or windows, as far as businesses go theres nothing to gain by switching.

This still another black mark on Windows Vista, but fortunately for Microsoft, Windows 7 is the next big thing.

Ok, outside the task bar at the bottom, the fact that gadgets can run in the main window area, the extra option for UAC, and DirectX 11, what makes Windows 7 different than Vista? I hate UAC, and even fully turned off Vista asks me quite alot more often "are you sure?" than Windows Xp does.

So, tell me why Windows 7 is the Microsoft savior that is far superior to Vista or more to the point, what will it offer that makes it better than an exsiting paid for full license of Windows XP with SP3 installed?

i work for one of the many little towns in texas, and deal with their IT budgets and hardware constraints and can tell you that every one of you that says there's nothing wrong with Vista have never set foot in such a situation. i HAVE used Vista and can tell you that it WILL NOT RUN with the existing hardware that the majority of these cities use. No amount of extra security features or 'ease of use' will help overcome that. Some question the cost savings of using XP, but again, have no idea of the software needed by local govt. entities like these small cities, that use custom coded software that takes years to get updated and are very sensitive to the other software running along side of it. From where i'm standing, a computer technician in the local govt. field for the last 10 years, i can tell ya this is a good step in the right direction. And don't even get me started on the retards using Office 2007...

Just too bad that XP is such a malware magnet. I use XP primarily but I do get a lot of malware and have to frequently scan it. I used to get none up until 2 months ago. That stuff can quite literally cripple your entire system. I had one on there that was so bad that it appeared to be a problem with the RAM or controller chip. Once I ran malwarebytes on it, it worked fine and still does. It is a real old computer too. Vista is too bloatware to run on that PC I believe. Once I upgrade it, I could actually consider Vista. It's really no big deal when you have a choice.

"We are not in any way, shape or form trying to pick on Microsoft, but the problems with this particular [operating] system are known nationwide," Hinojosa said. "And the XP operating system is working very well."

Typical politician that knows nothing about what he speaks.

that could not have been typed any better. very well put. I deal with those same Office users. any upgrade or visual change - oh boy, here we go again! and I think you are 100% correct, most of these posters don't realize that a lot of companies (and probably the govt. more so) don't create budgets to have computers with i7 965's or to even upgrade or replace computers every 2 to 3 years like they would need to to keep up with technology. heck 10 years ago the most of the computers where I worked (and we are talking 90%) did not even have CD-ROMs.

not to mention how beneficial it can be to turn off all the bells and whistles and make a new OS look and feel like the previous one. in most businesses that can be priceless so why not just stick with the OS that is already in place and working for the past however many years and that you have broken most users in on.

granted once most of your software vendors stop supporting an OS then it's time to upgrade. as it is though most of the software vendors are doing the opposite - they are keeping XP support and not supporting Vista. and I am talking the software vendors a lot of companys and most likely the govt. uses. I know that's how it is where I work.

uh, typical pure speculation and assumption...
