sandain, you wrote - "the _only_ problem I have ever had with it was a conflict between VIA's chipset my SBLive and my PCI TNT vid card (which was fixed by the purchase of a GeForce2 AGP)"
My point exactly. It is these little things that bother me. Even though that chipset is old, it still persists today. I mean, when I had my Kyro II (returned it) I went on a board, and everyone was talking about they couldn't get it to work on their AMD because VIA 4-in-1 or something. Now, if all they needed were the 4-in-1 drivers, that would be cool, but it depended on which one they installed and which board they had, to get the card to work. It is these little incompatibilities and problems that drive people away.
I am not anti-AMD. I am pro-Intel though. If my pops or family wanted a computer, PIII all the way, because of the aforementioned problems.
Me, I have a PIII 1Ghz, about to sell and get the new Tualatin 1.2 and o/c it to 1.4 or possibly 1.5. I know, I know, the price, but "bling bling, money ain't a thing". No I am not rich and pretend that I make tons of money (still a graduate student, don't even have a job), but when I want something, I go get the money, somehow someway.
I do want to mess with AMD though, it looks like you guys have fun. Hey, maybe those incompatibilities are actually entertaining, as I just put together my computer and it runs. My friend who works at a comp shop has an AMD 1Ghz chip laying around, that came from a branch that shut down, he is going to give it to me (hope it works!). That will be my first AMD project.
deez-in ya mouth!
