All right, so out of curiosity I've asked people what screen resolution is the best for gtx 980 ti and some say it's 4K and some say the sweet spot is 1440p. Personally I think 1440p would be enough for me since a few people claimed the gpu wouldn't be able to handle games on ultra at 4K. I dunno, I have never played around with 4K but I know some of you have.

My question is, should I go look for a new display at 4K or would this 1440p display be enough: PA272W-BK. It's very important that it has an IPS panel. I don't play FPS games, mostly just MMORPGs, and I edit a lot of videos and do a lot of graphic work.

Seriously, this is such a good GPU that I hate to waste its power on my 1600x900 display.

Solution
the rest is up to you these 2 displays are awesome. mmos like blackdesrt online or rpgs like the witcher 3 and diablo 3 look insane.
ow yeah darksouls 3 too
If you can, go see some displays in person.

A GTX980ti is strong enough to run many games on a 4k monitor.
I play civ 4/5 and skyrim on my 4k monitor.
Whenever I have measured, I get a steady 60fps which is the monitor limit.
Text on a 4k monitor can be very small. I think you want larger than 27"
Look into the Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor.

I guessed that someone would recommend that. Yes, that is on my list too. I'll just see what others will come up with too. Thanks for answering so quickly! :)

I thought it was! It was weird getting all that feedback telling it wouldn't be able to handle 4K. My main concern was Skyrim as well and it's nice to know that everything will work. By the way, I didn't know about the font size thing, thanks for telling! I'll definitely be looking into that display.

This too, was guessed to be recommended. Thanks! It's going to the top of my list right now. And thanks for answering. :)

Curved displays aren't really my thing but thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you so much! It's really nice to know that so no matter what I buy, I'll be getting quality. Thanks for helping again. I'll be picking your answer as the solution then.

Just one last thing, I read that acer xb270hu requires at least 2 gpus to be in SLI for it to work in its full-potential. Is this true?

Well the ones that matter are:

i7-5820K
X99A SLI PLUS
MSI GTX 980 Ti
Samsung 850 PRO SSD 256 GB (games installed here)
32 GB RAM

64-bit windows 10 Pro

That's very nice to know and this clears most of my doubts. I'll be off to buy that monitor soon then 😀

EVGA SuperNova G2 650W. I know I bought a too small PSU but I didn't think I'd ever want to buy a second GPU ever. Some future-proofing there, lol.

I really wish that was the case. I hate to think I'd need to buy two expensive GPUs. Thank god technology goes forward fast.

yea, you'll just have to buy one $1000+ gpu, lol.
From all the benchmarks I've looked at on youtube 4k pushes any gpu at the moment.. None of them currently run a 4k really well, expect to turn your game settings down with a 4k monitor..

Look at the Korean monitors, Crossover 324k,404k final and 434k final, these are just suggestions, they get good reviews across several forums. The 324k is 32"@60hz adaptive sync and under $450. the 404k final is 40"@60hz, not sure of the price. think $650ish the 434k final is around $750..

I think they would be worth looking at...

I'm running an I5-6600k@4.4ghz and a Sapphire Nitro Fury@1060mhz I opted for a Crossover 32s, its 32" 2560x1440@75hz and adaptive sync for $439 from ebay seller named dream-seller.. It should get here this week.

Pascal is rumored to launch in June.

Buy your 4k monitor first and see how you do assuming you have a graphics card that can output displayport 1.2.
You will get a better idea of exactly how strong of a graphics card you will need. If need be, play at a lower than 4k resolution.
Spend what you need to for a great monitor. It will be with you for a long time.

If you buy a GTX980ti now, buy a EVGA unit. They have a 90 day trade up program where you can get your original purchase price towards a trade up to a stronger card.
Read the fine print on this. It may be that the new gen cards are not initially a option.

If you do see and want a pascal card, be prepared to buy one asap. There is usually a limited supply of new cards so after the initial deliveries are gone, you may have to wait a while.
The GTX980ti launch was this way.

Oh? Please do tell how everything runs on that display when it arrives and you've tested it. I'm really curious.

I have been really careful with those display ports and from what I understood, my card can run that. Just in case, I'm not getting a 4K yet. I think I'll do with a lower unit just in case. I don't have money to buy another GPU at the current moment though I'll be looking into the new pascals. It's bit of a shame since I keep hearing that 4K is ruling in quality at the current moment but I guess games will be equally pleasant on 1440p to my eyes since I have never seen 4K shots.

By the way, I was told that that particular EVGA was a bit loud. Is that true?

If you are referring to the EVGA GTX980sc with the titan blower in my sig,, no, I never hear it at all.

All right then. Guess it was just that - a baseless rumor.
