Hi The World:

I am not a gamer. However; I like Speed & Performance. Which is the best processor; an Intel i5/750 or the AMD 945. Please reply in layman's terms.

Thank you,

Allan

If you want to manage software such Photoshop you will need a processor with certain instructions to run in smoothly, which is Intel in this case. AMD's platform is targeted for gaming however it still performs but not as the Intel.
i7 8-- series and i5's are based on the same design of the i7 9-- models however they are not coinherent with performance.
i7 920 is all you'll ever need, combined with default memory module 4 gb's 1066 mhz and a performing hard drive.

You are misinformed. Especially the part about instructions.

I'm sorry, but that is complete BS. So I must inform you, on behalf of the Internets, that you take your FUD/Fail and go else where.

Highly Threaded Applications - AMD
Lightly Threaded Applications - Intel

Both processors would be solid buys, however, i would personally run the 945 based on the application you described.

If your application is more mixed use than you suggest in the post, go with the Intel. If CPU's were doctors, think of Intel as a general practitioner and AMD as a specialist.

Now to answer a question you didn't ask...since you really only inquired about 2 processors: You really only need, at best, an Athlon II X3 445 or similar.

Another major facepalm. Seriously, what is with this thread and misinformation? This is like the third post with it.

The following are false:

Avoid AMD platform if you want to get a SSD, because AMD does not support "Trim"
Tell that to the vertex 2 in my AMD system. That has nothing to do with trim. Trim has to be supported by the SSD controller and the operating system.

If you want to manage software such Photoshop you will need a processor with certain instructions to run in smoothly, which is Intel in this case.
The both have the same relevant instruction sets.

AMD's platform is targeted for gaming
Stop living in 2004-2006.

however it still performs but not as the Intel.
Intel has the better processors but at equal pricepoints, they perform about the same.

i7 8-- series and i5's are based on the same design of the i7 9-- models however they are not coinherent with performance.
i7 8xx and i7 9x perform the same at the same clockspeeds because they have the same features.

i7 920 is all you'll ever need, combined with default memory module 4 gb's 1066 mhz and a performing hard drive.

You might want to pay more attention to current desktop offerings, though you are completely correct for 1055t vs i5. BUT this is not what the op is comparing. They are comparing the 4-core, 4-thread i5 to the 4-core, 4-thread 945.

If CPU's were doctors, think of Intel as a general practitioner and AMD as a specialist.
I was going to try to respond with my own metaphor about doctors and AMD vs intel to make my point that this metaphor doesn't work, but I couldn't.
