The Disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection

Hard drive failure...so I boot up with reinstall cd...go to c: to format, get " cannot format volume is write protected. need help
 
You want to restore your operating system, try that option rather than format - I know of no way to format a hard drive with windows OS installed without a few extra steps involved (and another OS). If there is usable space on the disc, the restore should work. If there isn't because the HDD is too damaged then you will need to replace the HDD and reinstall your OS.
