The fastest card that only takes up one slot?

Thanx. What brand is this? Do you have a link?

I have a shuttle pc with two free Pci express slots. But i want to fit in an X-fi card as well.

OP, you may be better to stick with onboard sound, and install a video card that takes up both slots. A single slot card especially a higher end one, is going to generate a lot of heat in that small case. It may cover up your other slot, but having a highend card that exhausts the heat out the the back of the case to me would be much preffered over a add in sound card that is going to give you only marginally better sound. I used to have an X-FI, I gave it away because the sound wasn't that much better over my Gigabytes onboard, it simply wasn't in my opinion worth re-installing into latest build.
Just my 2 cents, others will likely disagree.

@ OP, didnt see this post for some reason, ignore what I said, and yes the 4850 would appear to be 1 of, if not the best single slot cards

all gcards take 1 pcie slot
but most high end take up 2 expansion slots
the fastest single expansion slot card is the 4850 with air cooling
the fastest overall single expansion slot card in tne world is the single pcb gtx295 but it has to be watercooled

Thanx for all the replies. It seems 4850 is the fastest, but maybe thats too slow, and i better give up the x-fi and install a gtx 295. But it was my impression that the eax 5.0 effects from x-fi was really worth it i.e. true 3d positioning sound in headphones etc. Any opinions on this?

will the gtx 295 run in the newest shuttle with a core i7 2.9gz and 500 w psu? It would be a killer set-up!

Unfortunately you would need amuch larger PSU to run a 295.

Acording to shuttles web site, this model will support SLI and cross fire soulutions with the best cards. I think the 500 w psu is of quite good quality. So i guessed it would support the gtx 295 also, but i dont know about this. So the Gtx 295 is water cooled only?

Maybe thats taking it to far for the shuttle....I guess a regular gtx 285 or 280 will be the choice then.

Any opinions if EAX 5.0 from x-fi is worth it? I remember the initial reviews of x-fi on Toms hardware. They were really impressed by the 3d positioning quality in headphones (which means you can basically tell from which exactly direction a sound is coming, even with stereo headphones) Not a lot of people are talking about this, but for me that sounds like breakthrough technology for gaming sound.
