So I got my power supply yesterday. I ordered the Silverstone SFX-L500W full modular. Now the only thing left is the case. I want the Raven, but after seeing the Fractal Design Node 202, I'm actually leaning now more in the direction of the Node 202. Primarily because I don't have to buy an expensive slim optical drive. I can use my external to install Windows.
 
Yeah, DO CUSTOM INSTALL ONLY. Disable all things related to data collection in settings. Try to not use Cortana. Double Tap. Clear all three temp folders before hand. Use a USB to install since the update download has a 1 in 6 chance of being hijacked.....
 
Few things.

How do I clear the temp folders? Also whats wrong with the collection settings...what do they do?
I dont have a USB.....
And Whats wrong with cortana?
Sorry, I dont know much about windows 10.
 
OK... I spent a lot of time with windows 10..
Temp folders host anything that comes from the internet. Viruses and whatnot unpack there. Clean it at minimum weekly... I made a batch to do it for me.. It's easy, but you need to use admin command console... I'll send you the batch if you want it. It's a one click deal with possibly some typing of y.. Only problem is you need to edit it to fir your username on the computer. But that is easy enough.

Cortana is also a data mine, said to be worse than chrome...

USB install since some of Microsofts servers are being watched by black hats and they like to hijack and insert their own crap into the downloads.

@ Mirakledba, I got DENIED both of my window seats on my airplane ride to new york. I cri ery tim... Both seats were on the wing too 🙁

But damn, I forgot how fast the plane accelerates and lands. God...
 
Bossy - That sucks! 🙁 Why were you denied? Also how was NY? 😀 I loved times square! I had window WING SEATS! 😀 They were awesome...seeing the spoilers, flaps, all that jazz. I was in an MD-80...on the flight back..BULKHEAD 😀 LOTS of room..but one issue...THE ENGINE WAS RIGHT NEXT TO ME. And I mean like RIGHT TO MY LEFT...I look out the window, I see the rim of the engine cause its parallel to me...and you know how its connected to the tail, yeah, that was LOUD. And yes, the acceleration and the braking...all of it is amazing. I love the clouds at cruise altitude...

Getting sidetracked...anyway, yeah, temp folders 😀 ?
 
Death, I didnt understand what you put in the edit. I dont really feel comfortable downloading a bach file off here for some reason...Ill just upgrade it as a custom install without all that stuff....

bossy - Do you have win 10? if so, like it?

batch is pretty simple. I mean, you could look through it and see exactly what is does. That said, one simply navigates to the temp folders in:
C:\Windws\Temp
Del *.*
C:\Users\*InsertNameHere*\Appdata\Local\Temp
Del *.*
C:\Users\*InsertNameHere*\Appdata\Local\Temporary Internet Files
del *.*

That is a simple precaution that can help a lot with virus protection...

I made the batch in class in spare time since I'm lazy(teacher said efficiency 😛)

Oh yeah, somethings won't clear as they are being used by windows (ie drivers, documents, etc). Don't worry about those.. They have write protection. I'd tell you of a way to obliterate any protections, but you could wreck the bootloader files if used carelessly so.....
 
Same process as with programs. It MIGHT stop installation of critical files.
Back up NOW incase something goes awry...
Horror story is my friends download got hijacked or it didn't install right and he lost everything.. No backups insofar as I know of.
He also has a 4770(K?) and a 780ti..... mergh
Other friends got by OK, so it seems isolated to him from any of my friends that upgraded.

But really, I dont have time to back up 600gbs....I have work to do on the PC....Im just gonna upgrade custom install like you said. Anti virus I will keep on right?

Yes planes are fun... I'll wager a guess that you're in school for aeronautical engineering? Or just an enthusiast?
 
Well, I'm getting my "project day" back; we've got enough people now to go back to a 4x10 work week. I will be able to do motherboard reviews more quickly now. The next "official" one will be a B85, but I'm going to throw an AM1 into the mix as a "build for purpose" review; not part of my assignment, it may or may not run, but will address a specific board that I think needs to be included.
Scrooge has seemed a little balky lately. I'm thinking either unexpected [Asus] bloat I probably don't need, or a possible SSD issue. I ordered a 500GB Crucial and might switch to that from the AData in it now.
One Windows-10 issue I've seen but not Googled yet is that despite being set to do so, Thunderbird has stopped automatically checking my email. I'm considering switching to Outlook though; I have it, and I like the idea of using named PST files to clean up and archive the primary mail store.
 


Just go to target or walmart and look for the international adaptors. It's a two pronged thing but instead of vertical they're horizontal. That's all you need. Most electronics also run on 220V.
