I am not saying something may not make a noise, but it is unlikely to be a relay.

I have opened many power supplies without every finding a relay in them. My UPS on the other hand has a relay for switching.

What power supply are you on?

Great Wall 200W for $5... No just kidding 😛 EVGA 850W G2, which we all know is one of the highest quality units, so that is why I did not expect it to be something of concern.

You may actually have a relay in your power supply. It would be the first time I have seen it.

I guess it must be normally closed so it is OFF after the inrush current limiter does it's job. That is just a guess, but it looks like one in the image.

Here is where my setup will go:

Radiators around the image, motherboard on wodden platform between the TVs.

I'd love to set up a test bench like that. Though my N200 spare PC that I was going to set up as a NAS server my parents want to set up as a security system, so I want to buy a 4TB hard drive, and a couple of cameras and set it up as a home security system. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about that?

Well, there are those WD purple drives built for that, the 24/7 wear. Although, my Hitachi has been doing the same for the past seven years with no sign of slowing down....

That said, from my mom's store, they use custom made DVR's built specifically for that task. That isn't yo say you could do the same with a normal PC, the library does it. But you would need to find PCI cards that would let you put the cameras input to the PC, or hook them up to a receiver that is then connected to the PC(but that seems redundant).

For an OS, you could find some Linux distro or a program for windows that would let you access the feed and store said feed from the cameras.

Those fans are junk. I have 4 sp120s and all click. They are terrible.

That's exactly what I want to set up. The custom built DVRs I don't have the budget for, the computer I have already built and works fine - it's running an FX-8320 on a Gigabyte 78LMT with a Noctua NH-L9a, and I'll use my old Acer monitor to work with the cameras. Linux is perfectly fine for this setup.

I am going to get my Wifi upgraded hopefully this week which is what is needed to make this whole thing work. I'm about to go Office Space on my router that I have now.

My parents want to setup a system like this because they've had a bunch of break ins in their neighborhood.

That sucks.
My sister had a break-in at around 1 AM in their apartment block. Luckily she was spared as she was awake and the house lights were on, so the theives skipped her apartment.

Y'all should come to my neighborhood.

I live in a swanky, upscale part of downtown Denver and 5 people have been shot dead right outside my window on the same block, or the block adjacent within the last 2 months. I live on the 6th floor (top of this building). You know getting out the parking garage will be a pain when you see the police tape everywhere.

Its a really nice neighborhood. My 2bed 2bath 1,000sqft apart is $2400 a month. Hardwood/granite/brand new/underground parking/etc. It is just 2 blocks from a homeless shelter where lots of drug dealers hangout and shootings happen. None of the shootings are connected. Just people getting into arguments and then bullets fly.

Any city is dangerous though. We were at a club/bar (one of the most popular in Denver) only a few blocks from out apartment and 4 people were killed in a drive-by shooting like 15 minutes after we went home. The violent crime rate in Denver has increased about 500% or so since the legalization of weed. It draws the riff-raff form outside of the city/state to the city. That's why everyone here HATES non-natives, like myself. My GF and I are here for morally corrupt oil money, not weed though.

You just have to be smart, and you'll be perfectly safe. My GF carries a stungun to feel a bit safer, but has never had to use it.

Nagpur is a relatively peaceful city. There aren't any gang-related death incidents here, although some parts of the city are stricken by poverty. And the core of the city is surrounded on all four sides by farming communities.
The gap between wealth is saddening. And to say I'm not even considered rich in this city.

On a lighter note, I'm going to get myself a birthday build in the next three weeks. I'll post pics here when I'm done building. Currently have an availability and price issue with some of the parts.

Well, good news on the job front; the pay will slightly exceed what I'm making now, although I do not yet know how my share of the cost of insurance benefits will affect my final take-home. Given that I'll be paid for three weeks of accumulated vacation time, there's a 2K monitor in my very near future!

how about the sp120 quiets? I want to fill up my PC with corsair AF140 Quiets, and on the Rad maybe two SP120 QUIETS as opposed to performance...wait....I dont even know which ones i have.... >.>

Well yeah I would get AF140 quiets, but IM talking about for the H100i...what about those..also not gonna spend my money on other stuff...I decided on flight lessons unless i get forced to buy a car, but I really want to start flying again...what I may do to give me that push is just use this 1k to buy 10 hours so Im forced to finish it up :) I miss my huge passion for Aviation and i think its coming back..... 😀

For you guys in So Cal, Looks likes its about to rain huh?

How is MicroCenter?? I can get most of my parts there for my new build. Would they discount the price of a part if I show them a cheaper price from somewhere else?? Would they offer some kind of discount on my total purchase if Im buying a dozen parts and spending thousands??
