No. Nvidia also dropped prices. The 980 Ti can be had for $559 and it's a faster card and it overclocks better. The Fury X is usually compared to a reference 980 Ti as well. There are some very fast 980 Ti models from the factory and they all still have overclocking headroom.

As far as Fury X being quieter? I can't hear my EVGA GTX 980 Ti ACX 2.0 SC. Ever. Even at full load for hours.

the fury (or 390) does not have hdmi 2.0 spec ports.... nor do anything amd offers. this is somewhat unacceptable since you will be limited to 2160p@30hz over hdmi if you ever choose to output to an hdtv. displayport/dvi is fine since they already have the bandwidth and most who are on pc monitors that are 1440p or higher are already doing this can do 120hz if you double up on extreme pc monitors.

the 980ti is fully hdmi 2.0 and hdcp 2.2 compliant and ready for next gen 4k@48hz film content and 60hz gaming/broadcast tv over hdmi.

and i agree with tiny, i would take a 980ti any day over fury.

Just completed my first ever build... super excited!

Overall super stoked and excited. My first attempt was overall a big success. There are a few things I still need to do (need to overclock the processor to at least 4.0). Plus my front fans are not connected yet. Ran out of fan slots and the extensions I bought did not work :'(

Thoughts on the build?

I read someone was able to get it to 4.2 stable with a h100 cooler.
But we'll see.

It was my first build. 😀 It turned out marvelous.
The only issue I have: front fans are not working. :'(.

Need to find a good fan extension. Ran out of plugs.

I decided to go with a x99 build over skylake because it was only about $100 more expensive.

How about you disconnect one of the fans connected to the fan headers and connect one of the front fans? I assume you currently have two or more top fans connected to the motherboard's headers.
Other thing is that you can directly connect the fans to your power supply using Molex to 3-pin fan connectors. Until you find extensions that can work, you'll have functional fans at least. But they'll run at full speed.

I currently have 5 fans connected. The two fans connected into the h100 cooler set in pull (exaust - ontop of radiator), another two set in push (bottom of radiator), and the back panel fan set as air intake.

I bought some fan extension cords but they did not work. The fans did not turn on :'(

Disconnect the push fans and use those headers to connect the front fans. Four fans on one radiator provide little benefit, and pulling is more effective than pushing.

Also, use the back fan as exhaust. Otherwise what will happen is that air will come in from the back, and go out through the H100i.

Also, this goes against principle of natural flow of heat, which says that heat will always rise. Use bottom and front fans for intake; top and back fans for exhaust.

Another reason for using front fans is that in a liquid cooling setup, it's hard to cool the motherboard circuitry near the CPU socket which is otherwise automatically cooled using the CPU heatsink-fan. You'll need working front fans to cool that.

Top is exhaust. I'm ok with the air from the back going straight through the h100i. The idea of that fan is to bring in cool air for the CPU.

I don't have any bottom fans. ATM the back fan is the only air-intake fan so I got to keep it until I get my front fans working.
Regardless: I think I'd keep it as an intake. Also: I prefer push-pull configuration. Personal preference and its not as noisy.

The case was set up to have the front and back fans to act as intakes. I don't think I need two exhausts.

You're missing the point. The air from the back intake passing through the H100i is like installing a drain pipe below your water tap. All the water will go to waste, leaving none for you to use.

Airflow in a case is meant to be like a river; from front to back; from bottom to top, going through your components. That's why the back fan is higher than the front fans are; because heat rises. Push/pull isn't as effective, even with something like a 212 Evo.

Final choice is yours though - it always is.

The fans have to run at lower frequencies for the same cooling output (hence less sound).
I was wrong about the back fan.... my bad.

I tried a fan extension courd by the fans connected to it wouldn 't run. I'm not sure if that's an issue with trying to two fans to a single fan port OR a faulty extension plug.

yea I just figured that out. guess I know what I'm doing when I get home LOL.
Should plugging two fans into one fan port work? I'm not sure if it was a extension issue or a power issue.

One of the extensions only had one fan working. The second extension did not allow any fans to work. (all fans worked when plugged in individually)

Thank you. I might try different extensions. The extension I bought were only $1 for one at micro center.
Pretty sure you pay for the quality you get... xD
