The Thermaltake SP850M is not made by Sirtec. The UL file number on its label is E161451 - Channel Well Technology Co Ltd. Even the teardown shows the typical CWT characteristics (i.e. dark green colored tape on the transformer with the CWT name and part number stamped on it).

[H]ard|OCP's review stated that the ripple level is on the high side and so ranks at the rear when compared to its competing brands (e.g. NZXT HALE82 850W and Corsair TX850 v2).

I'm sure it was made by Sirtec, maybe the older models. I'm sure I found a review last year stating it was made by Sirtec.

Only the SP-1000M and SP-1200M models are made by Sirtec/High Power.

Well, the Thermaltake Smart series units are currently rated in tier 4. I take it that wouldn't be a decent OC'ing PSU? If so, I might want to track down the OP of that thread... he was thinking about OC'ing.

What are your specs and what's your budget?

Newegg has the Seasonic G series 750w model on sale for $65 after rebate and promo code until 10/24. Great unit and plenty of power for any single and even some dual GPU setups. Almost impossible to beat the quality and wattage for the price.

I'm talking about another thread, where the OP already put in the Thermaltake 850M. This won't be for my own build. My build will either be using an Antec HCG, or a Seasonic S12II.

Both based on an older less efficient Seasonic platform than the G series. Well 2 of the higher wattage HCG models are made by Delta but still an older less efficient design.

I just thought from your posts you were looking for a good, cheap power supply and the G meets that criteria.

Nope. Tier 3 is correct. As said in the article it's average in every way with fairly high 12v ripple, Capxon and Teapo capacitors and some soldering issues. There are much better units for a similar price.

Tier 2 is for very good units and tier 1 is for the best of the best.

Noted. The main concern is, the list puts it alongside Corsair CX and VS PSUs, which I've seen is preferred by people many a times over this particular model (500B). Now CX and VS are poor quality, and not as reliable as 500B, then is there a way to arrange them lower (or 500B higher) in the list?

Actually the CX is probably close to equal or even a bit better than the 500B. The VS is only available in parts of the world that use 220VAC so it's not as reviewed but it's similar in quality to the CX. Nothing wrong with using any of those units as long as they are used as what they are, budget power supplies. Don't run high power GPUs on them and don't overclock with them. Also expect them to last about as long as their warranty.

Indeed, VP450 or 550P made by Delta seems like a better option.

Hello,
Just wondering, why is the Fractal Design Integra R2 750watts PSU in Tier 3 while this Hardware Secrets review gave it a Gold award?

Also, is the SuperNOVA NEX 750 watts in Tier 3 the G1 or the B1 unit?
Thanks.

They either got a cherry picked sample or HEC has major quality control issues. Kitguru gives it a 7/10 due to the fan breaking in the box, being cheaply made, noise under load and Teapo caps.

Techpowerup gave it an 8/10 saying the design should be limited to 600-650w max and as such has loose regulation. They also found it noisy and poorly made.

Tier 3 sounds about right to me.

OCZ PSUs are now under the Firepower Technologies brand. The ZT units are in Tier 2 Class B.
